July 17, 2013 at 12:48 pm in reply to: Automatic audio cross fade with video transitionsThank you Steve. That is a workaround. Still doesn’t negate the gripe that it shouldn’t be in there or should be turn on/off-able. Why should I have to a) add another action to a process that shouldn’t be forced and b) clutter up my timeline with extra expanded elements, I like it nice and neat so I can see what is going on.
Auto cross fade, on/off.
In addition it appears that when I subsequently add a new clip it doesn’t come in expanded, so I need to do that again. And again. And again….

Thank you Charlie, will test that workaround out. greatly appreciated. And yep, on 10.0.8.
Will try it tomorrow, at the moment I want to feed the app to the dog so probably wisest to unplug and watch re-runs of Britain’s Got Talent (Hungarian, though, it seems).
Many thanks for the pointer.

Do you know what, I use FCPX for paid work too. In fact I made it through the largest job I have ever done with FCPX and made the most money I have ever made on a job with it. Does not mean that it isn’t more crap than good at the moment and doesn’t mean those who blindly champion it and leap down the throat of anyone who farts in its direction shouldn’t be on the end of a tongue lashing now and then.
If this software had a little more common sense applied to it (or perhaps a real world editor or two on the team) and stopped thinking it was smarter than it is and got seriously debugged, then it would be alright it would.
Plus, trying to suggest I be non ranty when my opening post was by description a rant… you’ll probably have more luck reinserting an egg into a chicken.

Ok, lets add this:
why, when I keyframe the position of a clip, is there movement between two of the keyframes that have the same points?
I move the image to the top left of the screen, for example, and want it to sit there for 5 seconds before I move it back to the middle.
Why does it sit in the top left with a stagger as if it had a bottle of vodka on the way to the top left of the screen?
Why can’t it JUST SIT STILL?
is that too much to ask?
Am I holding it that wrongly?

Ok, many thanks for letting me know.
Not sure why they removed so much useful stuff when the made X. It;s funny, I definitely feel like i’m fighting with the App a lot more than I ever did with 7. Personally I hope they stop adding new bits in that mostly still won’t make it appeal to the big boys at the top, and spent a raft of time debugging and putting back in the sensible bits they removed. Am tired of undo jumping me to the start of the timeline or not having jump forward being one second, to name just two.
Still, a gripe for another thread I guess. Thanks for closing this issue for me.

I’d say half of the jobs I do my clients want DVDs. This brave new hi-tech cloud based future fails to take into account a lot of people have crap broadband. I’ve recently moved and we don’t have fibre optic yet, so I am back to being packed onto copper wire broadband with way too many other people because the corporate world likes to milk everyone for every penny and I would say a good 10% of the time our broadband drops to a crawl and sometimes just stops. Mostly around prime time, so you know, when we would want to use it.
A lot of charities and not for profit organisations have poor broadband at work, a lot of their clients don’t have broadband. A DVD is easy to take around and show people.
Plus, people still like owning stuff and DVD works fine. CD sales still exist. Vinyl still sells. DVD isn’t going anywhere soon. I get that big companies don’t see how they can milk it for more cash so move on, but the real world is usually a good few years behind the ‘visionaries’ of the corporate world.
Good for you if you have fibre optic. Looking forward to getting it back myself at some point. But you aren’t in the majority.
And breaking DVD Studio at some OS update, is going to royally crimp my work. Not sure why a quick remake can’t be done to simply make it run on the latest OS. Just don’t get the lack of respect for money I/we have spent in the past. Once it is syphoned off to the shareholders, customers be damned I guess.
Still, cloud is so shiny.

That does indeed help, thank you very much. Explains why it happens and I guess I need to learn a bit about Motion again.
Still, have to say, from a position of naivity, seems a bit of a flaw in the way transitions are designed as it didn’t used to happen in 7. Still… ho hum.
Thank you again for explaining though, appreciated. And I shall google when I get the time and figure things out.
Cheers
Jules

June 18, 2013 at 6:33 am in reply to: Recommendations for a hosting company with template sites serving up Vimeo or Youtube videosHey John, your website theme freezes my browser on my ipad3. May just be specific to my tiring ipad, but thought I’d mention it.
And I can second WordPress themes. I use a simple clean one page theme to present my video portfolio. Skinning WordPress is pretty easy, especially if you already know CSS and a bit of coding of websites and WordPress for a client means they aren’t constantly coming back asking for tiny changes to content or copy.
