Ok, should have done a bit more investigating in the app rather than relying on google to offer the info up. You can assign a keystroke, but in their wisdom they decided to not include it by default.
that’s great.
Still a shame you can’t click the join and hit the keystroke rather than having to drag over the two clips.
Still, half way there 🙂

Thanks Mathieu,
I actually called Apple after posting and someone in the Enterpirse team got me to run some little tests with a new project, in which the new mac won hands down, so it transpires that it may simply be because the projects I have open are ones converted from 10.0.8 to 10.1.1 with the new libraries structure.
I’ll have to look again with new projects when they start and when I get the time i will create a new edit from old rushes on both machines and add similar filters, templates etc and see what is what 🙂
Fingers crossed 🙂

1. To connect clips in secondary lanes to other clips in secondary lanes and to be able to anchor those to the start of the timeline. being at the mercy of having to connect clips to primary clips is limiting. Choice would circumnavigate a lot of fiddlyness at times.
2. Eradicate some of the annoying bugs (which may have been done as I am on 1.0.8 at the moment) such as zooming in whilst playing puts you at the centre of the screen on the playhead. When you cut an audio track with the waveform being shown whilst the playhead is moving the clip to the right of the cut loses its waveform. The glitch where sometimes the audio goes mental. When a transition is added to the start of the first primary clip and you delete another transition attached to it it shortens the first clip to where the in of the transition was !?
3. An internal management system for plugins including being able to create a favourites folder and being able to ‘hide’ plugins’ in the plugin browser. Also being able to turn of certain plugin categories (I never use audio, pictures or themes
4. When you apply a transition between too clip it doesn’t automatically stretch and cross fade the audio of those clips. Give us an option to turn this feature off/on.
5. Consistency with where the opacity option is placed please.
6. Option to open all/close all of or some of the options such as opacity, transform etc. and for it to remember that choice when looking at any clip. I want certain options permanently open so as to save clicks.
7. An option to move the different components of the UI. I would like to move my plugins area to a second screen and have the timeline full width all the time.
8. Shift + -> jumps 1 second not 10 frames, or at least an option to set the jump amount.
9. The ability to ‘lock’ secondary or secondary and primary lanes so that when I am playing and slicing with a key stroke ONLY the lane I want to cut is cut. Currently selecting the lane and cutting in this method deselects the lane once the cut occurs. makes just slicing through on a beat not possible without cutting every lane.
10. The option of adding markers to the top of the timeline rather than always on a clip. They are markers, I want to mark my timeline, not clips.

I have my fingers crossed Steve. I imagine that for my needs it should be a rather pleasant experience, but i’m not really going to know until I start doing the larger projects on it which drive my current mac pro into a wall and me to despair.
From reading pre-release about what people said about them etc., I am imaging I have hit a sweet spot for cost vs power for my needs, which is mostly 1080, FCPX and Motion 5.
I shall report back over time, but I am quietly optimistic that Apple have made the mac pro and fcpx good bedfellows and things will be smooth.
Looking forward to trying 10.1 too as I’ve not bothered upgrading from 10.0.8 or to Mavericks either.
Cheers

That’s great Tom 🙂 looks like they found the UK on the map again 🙂

Hey Tom, I got a call from them the day before the email stating the same thing, 5 to 7 working days, then the email the next day. I guess that you would be getting the same email in the next day or two, as mine came on Friday (I think) and then we had the weekend. Looks like mid-March for you too 🙂 Enjoy 🙂

Mine has been shipped as of yesterday, with an expected arrival date of 11th March. That’s a 6 core D700 with 32 gigs of ram going to Hertfordshire in England. Initially it had a February dispatch date.
And as an additional bit of info from the home counties, I went into the Watford Apple store last week and they only had one 6 core unit on display with nothing to sell.
It’s heavier than I thought 🙂

Fine for that specific example, but i tend to get to the end, at the end. I start at the beginning then work through the middle.
To be honest no responses to my issue have offered a more viable solution than allowing secondary clips to be connected to other secondary clips. Without that option (and ideally the opportunity to anchor them to the start of the timeline and not the first primary clip) then it will be one workaround or another.

What if the audio tracks overlap, which they often do?

One of the issues I really have with X is not being able to ‘connect’ clips in secondary lanes to other clips in secondary lanes. Forcing every clip to be ‘connected’ to the primary lane sometimes creates real and needless hassle. A good example is when I am cutting up music to lay down. I want all my bits of music connected to each other and ideally to anchor them to the start of the timeline without them being dependent upon a primary clip.
Sure, I can create a compound, but having to do so means I have to enter the compound window to make any changes, changes which then occur without the rest of the timeline in view.
If I could connect them all to themselves and then anchor them to the start i’d be happy.
I come across other times when moving or deleting something from the primary simply breaks my edit and it is most annoying when I don’t realise it is broken till further down the line.
Again, being able to connect secondary clips to other secondary clips and being able to anchor them to the start would be a good addition.
