[Greg Estes] “OTOH, Premiere Pro uses only one GPU at a time, so for primarily PPRO use, a little Quadro and big Tesla is the best price/performance.
“We primarily work in PPro and want the fastest render/export performance available. So with that said, it appears that a Quadro 2000 + Tesla C2075 would be best for us…does that sound correct?

[Greg Estes] “Mixing Kepler and Fermi is not tested, supported or recommended.
It might work if you try it, but that would be very application dependent and when I checked with the product team they gave me the “not tested, supported or recommended” answer.
“Then if i’m trying to build a “beast machine” to handle heavy PPro and AE projects…would i be better off in performance to use a Q2000 + Tesla, a Q4000 + Tesla, or a K5000 stand alone? This is where i’m confused.
Thanks.

Greg,
Do you know if the K5000 will work with the Tesla C2075 in the “maximus” configuration?
It’s not clear on the Nvidia website wether it does or not.Jud Johnson

Any idea when this k5000 will be released? I’ve asked many Nvidia guys on different forums but everyone keeps dodging my question (very annoying). Anyone on this thread know?
Thanks!

Greg, thanks for joining in on the discussion. Any idea as to when the K5000 will be released and its price?
How would the K5000 performance compare to the other GPUs for PPRO?

[Todd VanSlyck] “It comes hyper-threaded, unbeknownst to me. It was a very pleasant surprise.”
Awesome!
[Todd VanSlyck] “I just did a test using 1080p video from the 7d (using the prores codec). I had 10 of them scaled down to 25% and stacked running with no problem.”
Double Awesome! We use a lot of 7D footage.
[Todd VanSlyck] “It’s when you use a codec like the animation codec (which i render my AE files in) or add something like Magic Bullet Looks (which I use constantly) that it really drags more quickly.”
Good to know. Sounds like the Quadro 4000,5000, or 6000 + Tesla would be best for us.
[Todd VanSlyck] “Oh yeah, the burner thing. Apparently the default for the dvd slot is a DVD-rom and I didn’t notice when I ordered. (who makes a DVD-rom player the standard default at this level of machine??) So I have to order a burner yet.
Also, if you need firewire you’ll need to buy a card for it. It’s little things like that that I would never think about which are standard on a Mac.”Also good to know. I agree with you…coming from mac, i would assume these items come standard.
Thanks!

[Todd VanSlyck] “- I’ve got a dual 8-core machine that’s hyper-threaded so it’s 32 cores working! Crazy fast.”
Please excuse my ignorance, but how did you get it hyper-threaded? Is that something Dell did when you ordered it, or did you do it yourself?
[Todd VanSlyck] “- Working with files natively in Premiere is so amazing. Have I mentioned it’s amazing? And also amazing as well?”
Good to hear! We cannot wait to do this. It will save so much time!
[Todd VanSlyck] ” I shoot with the EX1 and there’s no free decoder for windows. You have to buy one from Calibrated for 150 bucks. “
How many simultaneous streams of footage are you able to run on this machine? (over the network)
[Todd VanSlyck] “I think having the quadro 5000 will be better than the 2000 I have. The Tesla card…honestly I’ve been having a tough time telling whether it was worth it or not, “
Good to know, thanks!
Do you use any kind of dvd/blu-ray burner on the machine? Or a card reader as well?
Thanks so much!

[Todd VanSlyck] “Not just FCP to Premiere but Mac to PC. I’m in the process of making everything speak to each other now and it’s been relatively easy. Switching from FCP to Premiere has been easier than I thought. “
[Todd VanSlyck] “Dell T76000 Dual 8-core 2.4 GHz
NVIDIA Quadro 2000
NVIDIA Tesla c2075
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
After Effects CS6
Cinema 4d r12”Todd, my production company is going through the exact same thing you just did….switching from Mac/FCP to PC/CS6. We will be purchasing our new system in October. If you don’t mind, I’d love to get some advice based on your experience.
– How is the Dell T7600 working for you? Have you noticed any pros/cons to the machine? I’m currently looking between the HP Z820 or the Dell T7600.
– I’m looking at using the Quadro 5000 + Tesla c2075. How is the Premiere performance working for you with the Quadro 2000 + Telsa so far?
– What other specs are you running on your system…Ram, Boot Drive, Storage, etc? Thanks so much!
