I use EditReady2 {link] for many batch transcoding services. I think the price is about $50 and I’m very happy with it.

If you are needing versions other than the current simply install the Creative Cloud Desktop App. You will of course need a Creative Cloud Account. It is located here LINK https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/desktop-app.html

The Desktop App will allow you to go back to 2015. Read the instructions regarding how to keep or not keep any previous versions.

I know you are asking for a “direct” link but this is the safest route. A lot of “direct” links are not considered safe, besides being hard to find.

The advice you were given is the correct answer. H.264 is an extremely processor intensive codec and is not generally considered good for editing. Basically it is so compressed that your computer’s cpu is having to decode it on the fly, which is a big burden. Choose a DNX or ProRes variety proxy file.

The latest version of Premier will automatically convert to a proxy on import if you set it up that way. Have you experimented with this? If your computer has trouble playing the DNX or ProRes then there are bigger problems going on. Perhaps drive speed?

Yes, as always! My config is a 500GB SSD. The M395X according to my pre-purchase research was to speed up both editing and exporting. I see exporting speeds extremely fast. The iMac never chokes when I’m editing. I am mostly Premier with a little After Effects.

I will make a controversial statement. Yes, sometimes if I am on a small or quick turnaround project it gets dumped on my internal for convenience and speed. Then I transfer to an archive disk when done. I understand it’s not best practice but I live in the real world were sometimes I need quick turnaround. On smaller products I don’t see an issue with having the cache temporarily on my internal then dump it when done. I’m sure this will start a flurry of responses!

Whatever drive config always run constant backups!

FYI_ Point you to some nifty little USB3 SSD externals I found for transferring offsite projects & such. Work really well with the iMac.

David, One other piece of unsolicited advice only because I have the same system and edit video professionally.

Great that you are doing 64GB RAM. I strongly suggest the AMD Radeon R9 M395X opposed to the M390 (you didn’t specify).

David, I have a similar setup as yours.

Correct, you can only have 1 internal drive on the latest iMacs. Don’t bother with the Fusion Drive. It is not appropriate for professional video editing. Go with the LARGEST SSD drive you can afford. I suggest a minimum 500GB for video work. Their internal SSD drives are frighteningly fast. Remember that SSD drives will start slowing down once they exceed about 80% capacity.

You are correct to put your programs and such on the internal then get good externals for cache and media.

To my knowledge the Din 1.0/2.3 is a “push/pull” mechanism. I don’t think it’s designed to twist or screw off.

Regarding Adobe Encore (per Adobe website):
Encore is no longer in active development. Encore CS6 was the last version released.

The CS6 applications are still available are part of a Creative Cloud membership.
Encore is installed by first installing Premiere Pro CS6, which includes Encore CS6.

I do this fairly often for a client. My workflow is to render out the timeline to .m4v video files and .ac3 audio files using AME Adobe Media Encoder and choose one of the preset H.264 Blu-ray presets. That gets you the files you need.

For authoring and menu structure you can use Adobe Encore which is great for in depth menu structures but for straight up burn it to a Blu-Ray disc for HD playback with simple menu I use Roxio Toast with the HD/Blu-ray add on.

And if you are wondering, yes, you do have to have a Blu-ray DVD burner and Blu-ray discs.
