Don’t know if this qualifies as “color theory” but I think this is an amazing podcast about color. Love listening to it again from time to time. There’s some incredible concepts, like the relationship between language and our perception of color.

IMO it’s “must listen” for any colorist.

You mean on the GUI? You’re not really meant to evaluate the image on the GUI display. How does it look on your external monitor?

  • Have not had heat issues to speak of, but I do keep my machines in a well ventilated machine room. I suppose it’s a bit of a “what will be, will be” situation as there aren’t a ton of choices in terms of card configs. For what it’s worth the 680 is quite heat/power efficient, at least compared to the 580/570.

  • Starting from the bottom double height slot:
    680
    Q4000
    Rocket
    Decklink

Hope that makes sense. Make sure you have additional power for your 680, the MacPro’s built in power is not sufficient.

You find there are too many updates? Baselight has new builds on a weekly basis. Don’t like the number of updates, don’t update. I’d prefer to have to option of updating for support of new cameras and codecs.

Current version of ml supports all GTX cards. 570/580/670/680/690. Question is just power configuration. Whether you need additional power supply or can use built in and which power cables you would need. Have had several threads about that recently.

The deck link 4k cards may allow this, but they won’t allow sampling higher than 4:2:2, which means nothing higher than 10bits and no XYZ. In other words not capable of dci monitoring.

So for 4k dci work in resolve Linux is the only option.

“I have the feeling there is more to it than just the pure math.”
It seems the math is a bit off. I’ve done a version which I think should be more mathematically accurate.

I think it comes quite a bit closer, still a work in progress. But it’s based on the same formula used for the 3-strip look in the aviator.

Here is screengrab of my node tree:
