I think you can change to timeline setting after the AAF import in resolve. However, you will not be able to roundtrip back to avid. So you need to think of this as a traditional DI, where you leave editorial and then finish in a system which supports 4k finishing. This might be possible entirely in resolve, or you may need to use a resolution independent finishing platform like clipster or flame.

The thunderbolt interface isn’t acting as a video io. It’s an extension of your computer bus, like putting a card in your tower, so it’s not limited by GUI issues.

I don’t know the x9dai, but it’s not mentioned at all in any of the resolve config guides. Sounds like an issue with bandwidth, something is holding back your CPU. Perhaps ram?

r3d is 100% dependent on your CPU speed. This is because red doesn’t allow debayering on your gpu. So your graphics card is not the reason for your low performance.

To increase performance, either get a faster CPU (still probably wouldn’t be real time), get a red rocket (still not real time at 5K or with more than one stream at 4k) or transcode to an intermediary codec (this is what I usually do).

Use XML, and run it through fcp7. I’ve had no success with edl from PrP. Also would strongly recommend consolidating your media so that you can point it at one folder instead of trying to track things down.

I know some people don’t even bother with edl or XML from premiere, and instead just do a scene detect pass.

That is correct, only the Mac supports a limited number of non-CUDA cards.

  • iMac screens are very crushy in the blacks. Otherwise pretty nice for a computer monitor, but you CAN’T use it as color reference monitor..

I don’t think any resolve supporting gfx cards work on a MacPro 1,1.

Then, unfortunately, you’re not seeing an accurate image either in color or detail.
