    Thanks for the input guys,

Actually, since i’ve never even been able to open and use Color, i guess i don’t know what i’m missing…so to get the 800 and use Color at all would be a plus. I DO like Motion, though, and hopefully the 800 will allow full use of version 3? How does our PPC and 800 do with and XDCam HD, DVCPro HD or HDV timeline?

    thanks again!

thanks for the input guys. so, it has 256MB DDR, and if the newer remakes of these are working, i guess this is probably about the best i can do in upgrading my Mac short of just getting a new Mac, eh?

how much graphics RAM are you guys using with FCP2, namely for Motion 3 and Color? just curious…

    thanks again!

    hey andy,

great stuff to try there. thanks a bunch. funny that i get some guys advising to create a single QT before going to mpeg-4, others say go to mpeg-4 right from the timeline. i realize HDV had some GOP issues and seems to be a bit confusing for some computers to deal with, but didn’t know XDCam was similar in that regard.

i’ll try a few more options along the lines of what you said, and agree that Compressor when launched from FCP seems to be a slightly different animal.

    thanks again for the tips!

    howdy,

thanks for the “schoolin'” (i can use all i can get!), but i did know that about reference files…and you are only referring to step 1 in my process. either way, i send to the client neither the reference nor the self-contained movie…they are just the step before creating an mpeg-4 to email to them. just trying to find the fastest way to get both steps done.

    thanks for the input, though!

    thanks again!

that makes sense. trying different things.

what about making the QT in a different codec? would it save some render time going to a codec that is quicker to render?

also, i’ve now opened Compressor, and am converting two new single QT’s to mp-4, AND from within FCP i’m exporting two new timelines to two new single QT’s. will that double my render time on both processes? or worse? or make no difference? (i would assume it will double the render time…but we’ll see)

    thanks again!

    Matte,

Thanks! That was perfect! i knew i had used the bezier controls before, but had forgotten they are accessed under “linear”, and the tutorial was WAY more than i ever knew was possible with those handles. Hopefully others will find this one helpful as well. Thanks again!

    thanks again!

the solution which has been working 100% consistently for me was discovered by someone earlier in this thread, and it is to simply click “re-compress all frames” before sending your Mac off and running. this delivers a DVCPro HD QT file at 1280 x 1080 everytime, with no additional rendering needed. i’ve now mastered 3 shows to HDCam in this manner and the network is loving it!

    thanks again!
