I realize that the choice of transitions is really a matter of asthetics and depends on the use, but lets say for instance at the opening of a commercial, does anyone have a standard that they typically use between these two. One over the other. On a cross dissolve it doesn’t seem to completely fade out by the last frame however on a dip to color it seems to be completely black 2 frames before the dissolve is over. Is there a happy medium.

Thanks that solved that one problem. Is there are any repercussions with that when laying of to tape or anything of that nature? Also does anyone know any solutions to the other issue?

  • Luke, Just to clarify I meant taking the Black Magic codec clips and not the apple clips. The yes was in reference to the Black Magic codec correct?

Also, our BM card is probably 2 or 3 years old, does this mean that it isn’t compatible with RT extreme and dynamic playback? Could this be part of our issue? In the RT settings on the timeline, Same as Playback is really our only option so it seems that dynamic RT or unlimited RT are not available. Is this true of your older cards working with FCP 5?

Luke, it doesn’t happen often at all, but if there were to be clients in the room it would be very embarassing. I couldn’t tell you how to recreate it, but again it has happened at least 3 or 4 times in the past week.

  • Luke, thanks for all of the help. Does this mean that if I take the clips to a system with another card, such as a Kona card or any other brand that they will play down correctly if they are designed to be compatible with the Apple uncompressed codecs.

Would using 8 bit renders help the problem at all?

Thank you, I’ll let you know what I find out with continued testing. Also I’ll see what we can do about a Tiger upgrade.
