As far as I know FCP will only export MPEG4 files. Perhaps this is what he’s given you. Either way I would suggest getting the lastest version of quicktime 7. If you have a pro version than you can export with another codec or file type.

  • Its like the replace feature in after effects. This way if you have dissolves and effects on a clip, you can just replace it with another render from After effects and it will go right back into your edit without having to do the dissolves and or effects again.

Nelson,to do what you are saying is simple. You can cut up your clip with the razor tool or by using the default selection tool and hitting cntrl-v with the clip selected. Then just click on your clip (may have to do this one at a time) and to to Modify – Make Indepenent Clip. Then you can drag them all into your bins and see them as seperate clips and then rename them each individually.

Isn’t the duo a mobile processor only, wouldn’t something like a pentium extreme or an opteron be used in the desktop line?

    Posted from my messsage earlier:

Obviously you can wait forever and eveything will always get outdated, but this is a major change in the apple world and I think it will be interesting to see what they come out.

I was merely saying that if he can wait, it may be worth a shot and that i understood that if he needed it immediately he should get it as its a great machine.

My arguement was with your statement “a Quad won’t be outdated. There is nothing on hte PC-side right now that match it.” Sorry to the person who started this post for holding an argument when you are just looking for a simple answer to your question.

Mike, I am not arguing about PCs vs. Mac, OSX vs XP, Final Cut vs. other NLEs. I am a final cut editor and I love final cut as well. I am not advising a switch to PC. I am merely saying an Intel Mac, though its not out yet, will be faster than current quad g5s. Apple will not release a product that is slower than its current machines. I am not saying Intel is better than AMD, AMD has nothing to do with this. My point is the processing power of a quad Pentium or Operteron, of which there are currently many systems available, and will soon be avialable on a Mac, will be faster than a Quad G5. That is all.

I agree it may be a while before you get your hands on it, and if you need it now, then it will certainly fit your needs. I don’t want to start this battle with Mike about PC vs mac, BUT, apple isn’t switching to intel because Power PC is where its at, the intel chips are faster. This claim has been made by pc manufacturers as well as apple. A quad core PC will kill a quad core power pc, hands down.

Hey, while the quad g5 will certainly be an ample solution, why not wait a month and see what happens with the intel chips in the next month or two. I know its hard to wait, but it also sucks to get something that is going to be outdated in a month or two. Obviously you can wait forever and eveything will always get outdated, but this is a major change in the apple world and I think it will be interesting to see what they come out.

  • Ron, no offense intended on my post. I completely agree that any tutorial is a great thing to take a look at for new ideas. I merely wanted to point out another way to do this that may give an inexperienced user quicker and cleaner results. I apologize if my post sounded pompous or accusatory in any way. If it was a tracking tutorial I would have thought this was a great way to give someone a piece of test footage to track, but for what it was I thought parenting, nulls, or expressions would work better. Anyway, I appreciate the great work that you guys do as well as the work of all of the contributors. Keep everything going strong and best of luck on the magazine.
