MLK is a cash cow for the King estate. You would imagine that his speeches and teachings would be more widely known (not that they aren’t) if the family allowed certain usages to occur, such as in textbooks and other scholarly documents. Kind of strange to me…

Hi Ricardo – It looks to me as if they might have done a combination of Fractal Noise (there’s a noise version which uses blocks), with hold frames so it’s jumpy, used as a matte on the text layer.

One thought, if you have multiple licenses, is to use one of the two installs you are allowed to put Bridge on an Account Rep’s computer. Seems a waste of the other apps, but if it works for your setup…

I think the question you will have to answer is whether time lapse will work for you as well as running a video for multiple hours/days, and then speeding up the footage. Unless there is some visible change happening over a short period of frames, then I would think that time lapse is the way to go. You won’t run into the problem of limited runtime with time lapse. You just need either an external intervalometer, or you could load Magic Lantern software onto your camera’s memory card, and have one built in. I have a pretty inexpensive Aputure intervalometer for my T2i, and it works just fine.

You might also want to play around with speech recognition, depending on what platform and OS you’re on. All you need is a headset with a built in microphone – or just a microphone for that matter. It’s quite a fascinating experience to set up voice recognition, and just sit there telling your computer what to do.
There’s a feature called Mouse Grid which actually lets you control a “mouse” pointer via voice, by splitting the screen into sectors. It works quite well. I’ve played a bit with using Speech Recognition in Windows Vista – it works quite well, and it’s also available free for Windows 7. It’s a whole different experience:

I did a presentation at our local library, aimed more at people who had lost motor control of their hands or arms, than those who might use it to edit, but I could see it working, especially in software which goes more by the numbers, such as PPro or AE, but not in Photoshop.

I assume that you’re trying to get the vector paths to extrude once you get them into AE. Most likely what’s going on here is that the map was created for accuracy, and many of the states are incomplete outlines, so they won’t ever make a closed outline without extensive work in Illustrator. I have always had mixed luck, especially with vector maps which were free.
I ended up having to purchase a collection which was made with complete state outlines, in Illustrator format, with multiple layers for state outlines, counties, roads, rivers, etc.:
