  • Mouseless workflow: Can I select clips on the timeline without using mouse?

    Hi guys,

    Trying to avoid using the mouse as much as possible; i can focus windows, create i/o points, move clips from source to timeline, navigate timeline etc etc all without mouse – but am I correct in thinking I cant actually select clips on the timeline without the damned mouse 🙁

    REally frustrating because i have a 90% mouse free workflow – but without being able to select clips its kind of pointless 🙁

    In Premiere CC press D to Select Clip at Playhead.

    This selects the clips on targeted tracks

    You might also want to play around with speech recognition, depending on what platform and OS you’re on. All you need is a headset with a built in microphone – or just a microphone for that matter. It’s quite a fascinating experience to set up voice recognition, and just sit there telling your computer what to do.

    There’s a feature called Mouse Grid which actually lets you control a “mouse” pointer via voice, by splitting the screen into sectors. It works quite well. I’ve played a bit with using Speech Recognition in Windows Vista – it works quite well, and it’s also available free for Windows 7. It’s a whole different experience:

    I did a presentation at our local library, aimed more at people who had lost motor control of their hands or arms, than those who might use it to edit, but I could see it working, especially in software which goes more by the numbers, such as PPro or AE, but not in Photoshop.

    Thanks for your replies guys –

    @Matt – yes I heard about that – unfortunately I have cs6 🙁

    @Joseph – certainly something to take into account as I get older – but i guess wont help me with this specific issue as it seems that I wont be able to map any commands to select clips on timeline – as it doesnt seem to exist…

    @Paul – command up/down arrow doesnt seem to work in Cs6… is that also a cc command?

    It’s all the those pesky details :p

    Check in Keyboard Shortcuts for “Select Previous Clip” and “Select Next Clip”. They’re under “Application” but not in a Menu Heading. I’m on CC and that’s where they’re located. Can’t remember if they were there in CS6 or prior. Kinda just been automatic. Or maybe I assigned them years ago.
