You don’t say which version of PPro you’re using – I’m assuming it’s CS6, although it’s dangerous to assume. Have you tried putting the Broadcast Colors filters on an Adjustment layer? I don’t know why that would work any different from putting the effect directly on your clip (unless you have multiple clips stacked), but it’s worth a try.
Also, I’m not sure that taking your whites down to 240 is that outrageous. If I remember correctly, SMPTE ranges for RGB are 16 – 235. Here’s a good discussion of the issue:

While the thread is old, I don’t think that the issues have changed much. We looked at VizRT, had a demo system in place, and went through some training at the broadcast station I used to work at. You basically have to have someone in house who’s job it is to plan and build the templates, and program the moves (and I mean program). There’s a lot of ramp up time. If you’re CNN, FOX, or ESPN, it doesn’t matter – throw money and personnel at it – done! If you’ve got a budget and limited staff – think of alternatives. Have you priced a VizRT system? You’re looking at anywhere from a quarter to a half million dollars:

Things to bear in mind when trying to emulate Man Ray – both film grain and film artifacting (scratches used creatively, etc.), odd lighting setups – often lit from below, double exposures (you can use masked images in one of the many blending modes), odd blurred and smeared effects as well. Some of his Photogram effects can be achieved by using Invert in the Effect/Channel menu. If you’re going for the film grain, bear in mind that with real film, the silver crystals are very random, often appearing bunched, depending on how the print was done, and whether dodging was applied. You could use both masks, as well as still images of film grain and noise, which you can find with a simple search for Film Noise. You can buy film noise overlays from Shutterstock and Artbeats, as well as find many free ones on the web. Also search on Film Damage, to find stuff like this free overlay on YouTube:

You may also want to use still versions of the noise, rather than animated ones, since Man Ray’s work, needless to say, may have implied motion, but did not contain any.

Your best bet is to start out in Photoshop – think through what the mechanics of the final animated graphics are going to be and build your layers to reflect that. Then when you bring it in to AE as a Composition, you will have everything on separate layers, so you can build your animations, flares, fades, etc. easily.
Bear in mind that these types of systems are generally powered by a system such as VizRT, a powerful 3D live-broadcast engine in which all of the moves and templates are pre-programmed (lots of pre-production planning), and it all works on the fly:

You’re going to laugh, Tom – I have two vinyl music stations, one with a cheesy old (new needle though) Radio Shack turntable, and one with a higher end Bang & Olufsen turntable. I also have an old Dual turntable kicking around in a back room. Although I own many CDs, I still much prefer the sound of analog vinyl – it’s warmer, and you don’t get that hard to describe digital sampling feel. Everything is there – no holes in between.
My best friend has the Beatle’s “butcher” album. He just peeled an edge years ago and found it was under the new cover. I didn’t realize what Stones albums go for even over here. I’ve got their first album, 12 x 5, Between the Buttons, and a couple of bootlegs. I don’t want to sell my albums, but I’d be more than happy to watch for stuff coming up on *Bay here if you’ll send me your pick list. I don’t know if I can find it for less than you can get it for in the UK, but I’m happy to watch for stuff. I see Deja Vu going for about 8 bucks with about 15 minutes left on *Bay right now.

I have all of the above, but I’m afraid that they’ve been played to the point where it sometimes sounds like I’m cooking bacon in the background. I have all of the Beatles albums (some in the mono versions – I think they went exclusively to stereo as of Rubber Soul or earlier). All of the Stones albums up to Beggars Banquet – I got bored with the Stones after Brian Jones died – he was the creative spark which kept them from just being another rock and roll band. A couple of Faces albums (with Rod Stewart), and the Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake Small Faces album – but it’s a second copy, since I wore out the first one. Got a few Zeppelin albums – early ones, and only a couple of Fleetwood Mack albums (Bare Trees, Kiln House, Mystery to Me, Rumours, Then Play On) – when they were a blues band, up to Kiln House, my favorite. I’ve replaced just about all of them with CD versions over the years.
What, no requests for Bonzo Dog albums? Come on! I just got their Cornology collection on CD for Christmas. I have all of their vinyl albums, though. Great band.

Is that the “Alone Together” album? I have that as well, but not the swirled vinyl version, so it may have been a later release. Great album. And also interesting that some of Traffic’s best songs were written by Dave Mason, and not Steve Winwood. I think Dave was the better writer of the two, and that may have caused the friction which split Traffic up (at least in its’ first incarnation).
