I was having trouble with this myself. I went ahead and let it be for now.

But I just had an idea. Did you try this: Menu tab, then select your submenu. Under properties, set your End Action to go to your sub-menu “default”???

Let me know if this works…

Thanks for the reply Daniel! I’m not sure what you mean by menus during the encode process. I’ll be creating a menu and sub menu through Encore…but during the transcode I didn’t make any sort of menu…

I noticed in Encore that the BluRay transcode settings for the Compressor-transcoded .m2v file was automatically set to “Don’t Transcode” I’m guessing this means Encore is NOT re-transcoding the .m2v file. If Encore is in fact doing this, then shame on Adobe.

I’m guessing what you are saying is to output the Apple ProRes 422 HQ .mov file, bring that into Encore, and let encore do the transcode, so it is only a single transcode??? Even though the settings say “Don’t Transcode”????
Can I deinterlace with Encore perhaps?

works flawlessly. An extra step of transcode, but Apple ProRes can handle it.

Update: The AIFF workaround was successful. But any ideas as to why this would happen is appreciated.

through much experimentation, I noticed that Program Stream changes to Elementary stream when I change bitrates. Not sure why this is, and why Ken Stone and another Creative Cow author writes that we should choose Program Stream. Regardless, I still go this route because it has worked int he past just fine.

The other project of same origin (Sony nex5) I did a test and was able to output and bring it into Encore without having to transcode upon building. So, my new conclusion is that the two videos shot on the 5DMKII and at 30p is the issue. I rebuilt the timelines with converted master clips to ProRes and also conformed them to 29.97 with Cinema Tools. The audio is fine, it doesn’t need to be retimed because these are art installations, it’s just ambient music/noise, there’s no real action to sync to.
In the end Encore still wants to transcode the m2v files from compressor, so I just bit the bullet and exported a full res ProRes self contained movie from FCP, dropped that into the Encore project and just let Encore transcode the darn thing. Without really knowing what the problem is, I have no choice but let Encore do what it wants. Really frustrating.

I’m actually having a new problem, it’s with an ac3 file where in one spot the audio is scrambled when playing back on a player and HDTV. I’ll post a new one for this.

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever get an answer to this?

I am having the same problem…FCP timeline to Compressor births an .m2v program stream file. I made one disc this way and I didn’t have to transcode the .m2v at all.

The next project I exported using the same workflow and Compressor settings, birthing, in theory, an identically made .m2v file. Now in Encore, it insists on transcoding it, and it takes literally 6 hours to do so before burning the disc.

Comparing the two workflows, I can’t for the life of me remember any deviances to the settings. It’s pretty straightforward, as much as I can remember. But now Encore wants to transcode every single file I export.

What’s going on here?

Any help is much appreciated.

Did you save the original media from the cards as is? I would Log and Transfer again, into the ProRes codec. Then reconnect your clips.

From what I’ve learned so far, it could be that your system is a G5 and uncompressed 10bit is gigantic. Also, have you tried checking the SMART status of your RAID drives individually? You can see that in Disk Utilities. I would also download Rember and test your RAM.
I’m not sure why you can’t export with Quicktime Conversion to ProRes 422 Standard, or HQ. Please expand further on this? Just do a self contained Quicktime, don’t do reference as the file will have to reference your RAID again, which could be the problem. Of course this will only be useful if you have a final cut. You will hardly lose any quality, trust me, I’ve done tests between Uncomp 10 bit, ProRes, and ProRes HQ, and the differences are barely discernible.
From now on, the material I work with, HQ is a bit overkill and standard 422 is just as good, you’ll never tell the difference. According to Apple’s ProRes white paper, Uncomp 10 bit requires 1326 Mbps, while ProRes 422 HQ requires 220 Mbps. I can be wrong this, as I have been before, so someone more knowledgeable should answer to this.
My problem it seems, stems from a bad drive, and that a software RAID 0 with only 2 drives internally was barely fast enough, in my opinion. I’m going external RAID 5 with 8 drives and a card from now on.
I have a feeling you might have the same issue: The speed tests say you have ample amounts of speed, but there may be a bad drive in your array that you haven’t noticed yet.
Seagate also has an app to test drive integrity. This is only for internal drives though. And the process is a PITA. Maybe there is another app that can help test hardware integrity?

SO! A week or so ago I ran some tests to determine if my RAID was dying, and everything came back hunky dory.
Yesterday afternoon, I opened up Disk Utility to verify permissions on my boot drive, and guess what I noticed? One of the 1TB Seagates in the RAID 0 was highlighted red. It has a hardware problem and cannot be fixed. It seems this drive has been dying for awhile but hasn’t reached critical yet so no app was able to catch it. I’ve been running with a bum leg it appears.
I hope this solves the issue. And the fact that I’m about to build my own DIY RAID 5 8TB external array with a dedicated hardware RAID card. That should put this whole beast to bed.

When you say rebuilt, do you mean a reinstall of OSX? It’s been awhile since I’ve done that. I thought of doing it, but I wanted to wait until this project is delivered. Luckily, I can still continue to work.
