  • AC3 from Compressor audio is scrambled!

    Hello friends,

I’ve got an unique problem and have searched forums to no avail.

In Final Cut Pro I have a ProRes 422 HQ project, 1080i 29.97. I send to Compressor, and do my thing for m2v and ac3 files. The problem is with the ac3 file itself. I burned a Blu-Ray disc with these outputs in Encore, and when I play back at exactly 01:27 the audio is totally scrambled, then it comes back about 5 minutes later.

The timeline is a loop of a 6 minute video and audio for 30 minutes. the audio is scrambled at 1:27 and stays that way until the end of that first loop. It is back to normal upon the second loop. The audio tracks are fine, played back in FCP is fine, and when I output from FCP as an aiff it is fine also. I think the issue is happening when sending to Compressor direct from FCP. Every time I try it, I then play the ac3 file with VLC player, and the audio is scrambled at exactly the same spot for the same amount of time. But the audio for the rest of the 30 min. is fine!

I have no idea why this is happening. I’ve tried rebooting FCP, Compressor. I’ve copied the sequence and tried that one, I’ve deleted that specific audio clip and brought it in again. Everything other than completely rebuilding the sequence. I’m going to reboot my entire system now. The RAID that the audio master clip is on is fine also.

The only workaround I can think of is taking an AIFF output and then transcoding that with Compressor, or even letting Encore do it.

Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Update: The AIFF workaround was successful. But any ideas as to why this would happen is appreciated.
