May 15, 2008 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Particles that don’t go to the edges?

Once you render out the particle via record, then resolution is fixed.
This is normal for all recorded footage.
To get the particle to do what you want, you need to do it in PI via the background image.

It’s like when you film a person talking in front of say a bookcase, and now you want to size the footage down to make it seem further away, the book shelf does not magically fill the screen.
Same thing here because it has been prerecorded.

    Hope that helps you,

May 12, 2008 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Working with layers and blockers …

If you use a compositing program, like I do, then create the matte image first and then load it to use for the blocker in PI.
Then in your compositor, blur the edge using the matte for the particles.

If you captured the DV video using Vegas and it is on the same system that you are using PI, then you already have the codec installed.

October 19, 2006 at 1:04 am in reply to: animating in real time to music

    Magpie pro https://www.thirdwishsoftware.com/index.html
is a lip sync program that maybe the answer.
You could create expressions but of the emitters as you want them to match the music (there is a tutorial on making an expression lib).
Then when your done you can print out the exposure sheet.
Now use the exposure sheet to know when to add the emitters on a frame by frame basis.

I have version 1.25e and I can not figure out how to play the music and add an expression (using a keyboard stroke) in real time but email the programmer as he has always added features for his users in the past.

    Good luck,

October 12, 2006 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Preset Ripoff?

If a preset is in the emitter libary and it was given free by WonderTouch or was purchased by a user, then anything created with it in PI is OK.
    Always has been.
He is not selling the emitter.
He is selling a rendered animation of the emitter.

I don’t see how it is annoying.
If you found your “emitter” being re-sold as someone else’s work, then yes that is way bad and criminal.
If you found your “emitter” being sold as rendered animation from someone that did not pay for the emitter or if you had spec’s on re-use from your emitter, then again bad and criminal.

Other than that, anything rendered in PI can be sold because if it did not, all of us who make a living using it, would not be able to use it for profit.

eg. You make a PI animation of snow falling by adding the snow emitter to the project and you save it a tga sequence with alpha for a client.
Next month a new client wants snow so you show him a animation of snow from your last project. He purchases it from you but you do not re-render, you only give him a copy of what you already did at full price if you wanted too.

How is that different other than advertising on the web as a pre-done animation?

Not trying to be a dick about it so I hope I am not comming off in the wrong way.

The only way to protect yourself is when you sell an emitter is to include a clause on re-use.
But if you give it to Wondertouch to add the emitter libary, then there is nothing you can do or should not even feel bad.
Becasue the truth is, a few times I have seen people looking for the creator of a said emitter and then wanting the creator to make it specail for him becasue he can not and now you have drumed in business by putting your emitter out there in the first place 🙂

Hope I explained it right, again, I mean no disrespect and I am personally grateful for all the emitters Wondertouch includes and gives away evey month.
I am also a purchaser of emitters from some talented users as well.
Makes me more productive and that equals profitable.

    Take care
