I wouldn’t call guys like John Rofrano and Dave Haynie exactly “terribly ill informed” on the subject at hand.
What’s ill informed is expecting Sony to do anything with the Vegas line as they recently sold that to MAGIX GmbH. -

If the OP just wants to fill screen, this is from Vegas Pro online Help.
“You can also use the Windows Graphics Card device on a computer with a single monitor. When you enable the external monitor, the video preview will fill your screen.”
