I was able to unlock and then it was no longer grayed out.
When you click on the lock, does it respond at all?

    Paolo,
    I found an easier route:
In the info of the particleIllusions 3.0 folder my IT manager’s name was being used as the owner. I changed it to mine and applied to enclosed files.
    All worked after that.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

    John,
I finally found how to fix the problem on the MacBook Pro.
It was under the Owner and permissions.
My IT manager has both of us as administrators on my system, so his name was locked under the owner. I was able to change it to my name, use password and apply to enclosed items, under the particleIllusion 3.0 folder.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Paolo,
    Thank you for your response.
I have tried your action several times with no success.
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong in the command prompts, but I have checked 4 times. I restarted after the process…no success. ???
    Thanks.

    John,
Did you ever resolve your installation problems?
I’ve had similar issues with no response as of yet.
    Thanks,
    Jorge
