I have the similar problems as an earlier post.
The Default.il3 will not open and crashes the program.
I trashed all the files as instructed in the first response, shutdown, downloaded a second pkg, reinstalled and the same thing occurs.
The Help files also do not open.
The Default file’s info reads as a Unix executable.
The additional libraries seem to function fine.
Do I have the right download, etc.
I don’t believe its a problem with my MacBook Pro 10.4.11.
Thanks for any and all help.

This is a problem with the permission flags. It seems that the installer can default to a different user’s permissions if multiple users are installed on your machine.
After you install PI open the Terminal, go to the folder where PI is installed, usually /Application/particleIllusion 3.0 and run the following commands:

    – sudo bash
at the prompt enter your usual password
    – chmod -R your_user_name *
your_user_name is of courser your user name (short version)
    – chgrp -R staff *
    – exit

    That should fix it.

    Paolo,
    Thank you for your response.
I have tried your action several times with no success.
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong in the command prompts, but I have checked 4 times. I restarted after the process…no success. ???
    Thanks.

    Paolo,
    I found an easier route:
In the info of the particleIllusions 3.0 folder my IT manager’s name was being used as the owner. I changed it to mine and applied to enclosed files.
    All worked after that.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

Yes, that’s exactly the reason why it didn’t work. The chown (change owner) command changes the ownership of the files. Glad you found a solution.
