If you use the setting “same as source” you must be sure that anyone who wants to view your movie needs that AVID codec. Unless you are working in native DV. Personally I like the H264 codec. But choosing your own perfect codec settings is much like cooking. Every time you cook your favorite recipe it becomes a little better. And remember better ingredients make a better meal!

  • Crew,

The 8k/s I wrote down earlier is wrong. It is 8 s between kfs. So there is no keyframe issue at all.

I ended up re-building all the conversion tasks step by step. I came to the conclusion that the 2-pass during audio encoding is causing the issue. I changed this to a single pass and the issue is solved.

I’m sorry I can not explain exactly why this is the issue since I can’t find any log files and Carbon Coder is not leaving a lot of information in the event manager.

  • That IS an interesting suggestion… I’ll have a glass of champagne tomorrow first, and I’ll be back on monday to give it a try!

    Have a good one!

  • Crew,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. SInce this system is serving a newsroom I don’t have control over the source codecs being fed to the Carbon Coder. Besides that the “to use or not to use FLV” is an entire different discussion. Interesting, but not very valuable to the problem at hand.

    Any suggestions on the phrase:
