U can only record in M4P with the SXS ka-mr100g memory recorder. The option is greyed out in the menus without the recorder. The jvc rep said the recorder is the worlds biggest dongle. Something to do with keeping the folks at Sony happy.

U have to have a tripod plate to use this camera on a tripod. It spans the gap between the front and back because the shoulder pad is in the middle. The plate that comes with your head screws into the jvc plate. Seems a little expensive but you have to have it and you\’ll love it.
I bought the Fuji 17x lens. I\’ve heard great things about the canon 14x but I need more zoom than that. I have not used a zoom controller on this camera but I know it does not have a LANC port like the varizooms use. U may not need one when u \”real\” lens like the Fuji or canon.

We have the new JVC GY-HM700. Overall I really like the camera and the way it sits on my shoulder. The progressive image is very clear and the workflow into FCP is great. I have noticed that the blacks are noisy. I’m curious if there are settings in the camera that help minimize this.

I considered buying the EX-3 but couldn’t get over the fact that it doesn’t sit well on my shoulder. I throw more footage away because I didn’t hold the camera still that I do because of poor image quality. The inexpensive media also played a part in my decision.

I just received my 700 as well although I have used it several times before I bought it. I went with the Anton Bauer Dionic 90 batteries and the Titan charger. Still trying to pick a tripod. I’ve used the SanDisk SDHC cards but they are 4 times as expensive as the off brands so I just bought some from Transcend which the JVC dealer recommended.

I did some testing and the 1280×720 at 60p (HQ) looks better than the 1920×1800 at 60i (HQ). So I guess I will not be shooting interlaced any more. The files drop right into FCP either way.

I bought the $280 tripod plate they recommend and also the $600 JVC hard case. A lot for a case but I plan on putting this on a plane from time to time.

    Hope this helps,

Sorry, dyslexia must be setting in.
I’m using a Mac with Final Cut Pro so no conversion is necessary. I just drag the files off the SD card onto a hard drive and then drop them right into FCP. I’m not sure how to do it if you are on a PC or some other editing system.

Check the audio select switches behind the LCD flip out. If they are on manual, you need to adjust the level with the dials above the power switch. Also check the switches above the XLR inputs. If you are using an condenser mic (including the one that comes with the camera) the switch needs to be on mic + 48v. You should be able to see audio levels in the viewfinder and LCD flip out. If not, push the status button until you see them.

    Hope this helps.

I’m currently using the JVC GY-HM700 with the Fuji 17x lens. I’ve used it to film outdoors, indoors during a church service and at a conference in a hotel ballroom.

Overall, I’m very impressed with with the camera. I’m not as high on the Fuji lens and will be waiting on the Canon 14x that was made for this camera (being released in June). I love the way the 700 sits on your shoulder. I used it without a tripod for 5 hours and didn’t feel beat up because it is so light.

The image is solid and very good for a 1/3″ camera at this price range. The switches and buttons are laid out very well and makes it feel like a pro camera. The SD cards have been reliable and the footage drops right into FCP. The flip out LCD screen looks incredible. The viewfinder is not bad but could be a little bigger.

During my conference shoot I had to add 6 to 9 db of gain and the image held up fairly well in low light, not perfect but as good as can be expected.

Overall, I’m very impressed but plan on waiting until the Canon lens is available.
