I think what you are talking about are the preview thumbnails for the clips on the timeline in DaVinci? The problem this post was associated with was for when grabbed gallery stills wouldn’t display when using them for a reference wipe.

I think for your situation it could be a problem with the clip cache and you may need to change the directory location for them. You can do this in the general options tab of the main settings window in davinci (cog at bottom left).

If that fails again I would remove the media from the media page and quit davinci and then reload and re-import it in, which i imagine would allow the clip cache to refresh.

I think this was just a problem with resolve 9.

If you are seeing black stills now it possibly could mean that your gallery needs to move to a different location. Try changing it to another drive, grab a still and see if you can use it.

GPU would surely only affect playback. Also it doesn’t retime properly ( ie with blend or optical flow)when played back through render cache.

It’s a mbp retina so performance is actually reasonable.

  • Ah yep thought that would be a way around it. Typical sony slow to update software.

  • Did you find a solution to this? A friend of mine is suffering the same problem! Ridiculous apple would change the file structure!

Yer I am aware of the Avid Edit Protocol, but unfortunately due to the sheer volume of media we wouldn’t have been able to take that through to the online (plus the constant problems we’ve been having with Avid AMA…)

Therefore we had to try and transcode/consolidate the media down so we could work on a fresh project with Avid DNXHD media.

Cheers for the advice though, in another project that would have worked a treat!

    Thanks for the responses.

Tried aaf export first, but the project I have been given is full of ‘corrupt’ clips that won’t transcode, and every shot is AMA’d.

In the end I just exported an EDL that had the majority of cuts in it and razored the rest afterwards. Didn’t have time to sort it properly. Avid and AMA really is a feature that is riddled with bugs and has been causing problems on this project for months. (mainly clips dropping offline randomly…Difficult to sort out when you have 4TB worth of rushes for a 50min programme.)

Anyway, sorted the old fashioned way!

    Cheers,

Yep, somehow the session was selected to left eye…

    That’s solved the issue, thanks!
