Annotation will do that. Any one doing subs for DCP must have this app. It is so inexpensive there is NO reason not to have it.

I have an Epic 5k short project I’m working on. I had started it on my PC resolve that has a Quadro 600 + GTX285. We shall see. So far the Mac Pro with single GPU “seems” to be doing better then the 285/Q600 combo… but no real testing yet to confirm. Just a single 24p HD ProRes project.

Here is repost of when I asked this…

Re: GPU RAM question
by Peter Chamberlain on Mar 5, 2012 at 5:53:28 pmWe recommend 3GB GPU ram if you plan on doing 4K work.
1.5MB will get you by sometimes but its not advised.

____It took me a few tries to, but eventually it was answered by the BMD folks. I’ll be testing out one of your GTX 570’s w/2.5GB… so we shall see how that does.

April 22, 2012 at 9:57 am in reply to: MacVidCards cracks the GTX5xx cards – Fastest Mac EFI card EVER !!!Ah… I see now. It looks to be running at half speed like you said it would be. I think the higher speed showed up when the original AMD 5770 was installed, I’m pretty sure that one showed up at full speed. Let me know when you have the 570 working at full tilt.

April 22, 2012 at 12:10 am in reply to: MacVidCards cracks the GTX5xx cards – Fastest Mac EFI card EVER !!!Hey David,
OK, got it. I’ll run that test tomorrow. I’m very curious about this. Under system profiler it is reported that it is at full speed, but who knows what that number really means. That’s a bummer.
What about the GTX 680? Any luck with that one?

April 21, 2012 at 5:07 pm in reply to: MacVidCards cracks the GTX5xx cards – Fastest Mac EFI card EVER !!!I’m confused? I bought a brand new EVGA GTX 570 2.5 GB from newegg as my GUI GPU and it works great. I’m even getting 10-bit from the DisplayPort connector on my DreamColor and HP ZR2740w monitors in photoshop. I’m using the Nvidia drivers… no nothing modded.
What am I missing here? I have a MacVidCards GTX 285 in another system from “back in the day”, but how are those cards functioning differently then a stock GTX with Nvidia stock?

Another 2 hours before exhibits open. I can’t wait either!

Eric is correct. There is not currently a “dual graphics” monitor mode with Resolve.
You need to use a Decklink card that supports the video format you are using. Best is the Decklink HD Extreme 3D, but you can use many of the other Decklink cards as well. For REC709 in a non-RGB mode there are some cheaper ways to go if you need to “make it work”.
You could use an Intensity Pro with a Panasonic plasma. That may be the cheapest semi-ok way to go.

Yeah, I always wondered about that too. There are ways for a non-64bit app to use more then 3gb, but it is not as simple as just having the app directly address the RAM. I’m not a programer so I’m not exactly sure how it works. WIth Adobe AE there is a multi-processor mode where each processor can use up to 3GB each. With the latest version of Pro Tools HD there is a way to use the RAM as a disk cache that amazingly improves disk performance… you can assign a huge amount of RAM for that.
With regard to the Resolve specs for RAM on 2009 & 2010 macs… the Nehalem and Westmere processors use in these systems there are 3 “RAM channels” per processor. So, installing in matched sets of 3 allows for the best possible performance. Even though there are 4 DIMM slots per processor using only the first 3 slots per proc yields the fastest processing as I understand it. The most cost effective way to go on one of these machines is 6x 4GB DIMMS. It is surprisingly affordable. 6x 8GB DIMMs is not that much more expensive either. But, you need to be on one of the 64-bit OS’s flavors to use it all. I’ve been running with 48gb on a 2010 12-core under Lion for a while. Runs great, but honestly it seems to run as well as my 8-core 2010 with 24gb. It’s just fun to look at the about this Mac and see that big number! But with Lion you can use that new Nvidia driver and drop in a GTX 570 2.5GB card and run Resolve useably with a single GPU.

I’ve not done that yet. Currently we are working in ProRes and Red mostly. But… I know this will come up. I’ll try to test this out soon once I get through my current show.
