Nvidea’s Quadro FX line of cards is “optimized” for workstation application, which basically means it runs specialized drivers that are coded specifically to run your 3d apps at their very best.
A lot of users argue that the premium you pay for the Quadro line has absolutely nothing to do with the actual hardware and everything to do with these special drivers. Basically you are paying for extremely efficient and frequently updated drivers as well as amazing tech support.
Some users have even been flashing lower end “gaming” cards with Quadro FX roms for years, and aside from some minor glitches and occasional heat issues reported, they run just as well as the Quadros. Obviously this would void any warranty and tech help but it supports the belief that the higher end gaming cards and the Quadros are almost identical on the hardware side (except of course their VRam.).
That being said, I would argue that the work done on the drivers, and the tech support/stability of these workhorses are well worth the price of these cards, and should you ever be in need of a workstatioin level, ultra-reliable card, look no further than the Quadro line.
