Has anyone else encountered issues exporting HD “Same as source” quicktimes from their Avid Media Composer. (v.275 and fully updated quicktime)

Our sequences and footage is transcoded to DNxHD 36 so that our edit stations can stream over our network and have never ran into this problem until recently.

Every time we export a “same as source” the final file is the right file size, opens in quicktime, but plays in the most odd ways, dropping frames here and there, jumping ahead to other scenes and flashing frames from later on in a show, etc.

Exporting quicktime “reference” files or any other type of output works fine so it’s quite strange that SAS is doing this.

We are running Windows XP professional, updated with fully updated AVID MC before 3.0. I would appreciate any help we could get on this.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

Are you using the correct version of QT?

We are using Quicktime 7.5 and AVID Media Composer 2.85 as well as a few machines with 2.72, the same as source problem is occurring on both versions.

    Thanks for your help.

You should not use QT 7.5 with those versions of MC.
You should be on QT 7.2 for MC 2.7.x and on QT 7.3 for MC 2.8.x
Pay close attention to the Avid system specs, and follow them religiously.

My bad, 2.7.2 needs QT 7.1.6

Thanks a lot for your help and the Avid link.

This did indeed fix the problem! We uninstalled our quicktime and reinstalled the older/compatible version and now “Same as Source” works again. I work at a school and it turns out the students were running iTunes and updating our quicktime versions automatically somehow, anyways IT is figuring it out and now that we know the issue it’ll be easier to be proactive about in the future.

We will be consulting this version matrix from now on while troubleshooting.
