Hi there, I’ve never used wpf or xaml, but I’m assuming you have? It looks like you might need to convert to svg or some type of text-based vector file. This is strictly based on reviewing microsoft’s description of WPF and XAML. In this case, you will be making code to work with WPF since XAML is just a markup language like XML. It looks like this could be used to make mobile, tablet, and other types of UIs, but I could be wrong. I’d suggest working within developer guidelines for the UI (assuming you’re part of a team) and stick with the “standard” web sizing (ie: 4×3 sizes like 640×480 which are standard for most mobile devices and computers), keep snapping to whole pixels (WPF will do mid-pixel renders, but you get fuzzy lines), make sure to check art by testing and loading on mobile, stick with the “web safe” color palette and you might want to keep individual buttons and display areas on their own layers in case you need to separate it all out later for animations, layout changes, etc. might be easier to develop in flash instead of illustrator, too.

I transcode using MPEG Streamclip (free). Probably use MP4 (Quicktime) and h.264 for encoding. Keep quality up as much as possible all the way through. HD can take forever on your machine depending on how much footage there is. You should also consider using the Apple Intermediate Codec at 90% quality or so (dunno if FCE4 will take ProRes422, it’s been a while) for editing instead of MP4/h.264. Use MP4/h.264 for the final version to DVD/BlueRay/YouTube.

A Canon DSLR isn’t really good for live events. Also, $1000 will cover a camera, but no lens, tripod, audio gear, lighting, etc. DSLRs are quirky, they shoot for about 12 min (some shoot longer now, some don’t). I’d recommend you get a low end consumer camcorder and start playing with it instead. They have HD, most use AVCHD which isn’t perfect, but works good for general shooting. You can also rent pro cameras for good rates (HMC-150 is a good all-purpose camera you can rent pretty cheap). Check out places like NoFilmSchool.org, film flap, videomaker.com, etc. Save your money for a decent computer, editing software, etc.

If you’re printing it yourself, you may need to check with the RIP for your printer.

If you’re sending out to be printed, ask the printers what settings they require for Illustrator files. May also need to rasterize so ask what settings (ie: dots per cm) they require so you can do it all in one step when you rasterize.

Hi there, okay, that is much clearer. 🙂

It looks like the basic differences with your flower and the image with the card are:

1) the greens have been pushed towards yellow a bit (that’s the hue/sat layer), the reds towards orange and overall a drop in saturation.
2) some curves adjustments (lots of individual s-curves) – start with cross process default and then make s-curve adjustments to each color to get the right look.

It could have been accomplished by using one of the default LUTs (in PS CS6+: Layer > Adjustment Layer > Color Lookup…) – look in the abstracts. Maybe Gold-Amber or Green-Red or just play with them for a bit.

I nearly always use multiple layers of adjustments and play with the adjustment opacity, blending mode, masks, etc. When you’re done, bring it into Illustrator and make your clipping masks. 🙂

Well, 2 things: 1) you should post in the photoshop forum (this is for illustrator) and 2) it’s really not clear what you’re asking … Ie: are you trying to convert the flower photo to the second image or are you trying do the printed materials or is it something else. I suggest reposting in the photoshop forum and be more specific with what you are seeking or you won’t likely get any (good) answers.

I remember reading an article about NFL films several years ago in American Cinematographer. They shoot more footage than many production houses AND TV stations. This on the news that Hollywood is trying to hold onto film and is agreeing to buy film from a horribly failing Kodak over the years. At this stage, I’m not sure it makes sense to go ahead with film. I love film, though, I can’t imagine it being as practical anymore. I’m getting better footage from digital now (or footage I’m more happy with than film). 🙁

I can’t imagine having to pay for film-to-digital transfers anymore or having to store it or dealing with a bad film batch, etc. I’ve replaced all those matters with brand new, digital problems like bad sensors, dead batteries, bad cards, bad drive sectors, copying to multiple archives… 😉

Not clear on what you mean by scroll, but I’m sure it has to do with the art in question. Sounds like you will need to simplify it and then save it for another app. What other software do you need it for? You can use a PNG file – supports transparency.

Might want to reset your dialog boxes. There might be an issue with the join and you may not be getting the warning. In General Preferences (Preferences: General?), click the button to reset all warning dialogs.

Try doing this: create a line with the pen tool, switch to the arrow (V), select the line, go to edit > copy, then edit > “paste in front,” use the Direct Selection (A) arrow and DRAG to select one of the points (it will select both the top and bottom points. With them selected, hit join and you should see the dialog. If you do, then your other join operation may have a problem and you should reset the warnings.
