You could use this image as a guide for your version. Or you could always try creating new lashes using the brush tool and using shape dynamics with the “size jitter” control set too fade. (sounds complicated but the options are in the ‘brushes’ palette under the window menu).

Sorry, I should have explained. When you have the selection (white area) in the colour range pallete hit OK not save or load and this will give you the new selection in photoshop.

Hey Macker,

Forgive me if this answer is to obvious but its just to see where your at. If your trying to save an unflattened file from PS the formats you mentioned are the only ones that can be used i.e. Tif, PSD, PDF etc. Jpegs can only be saved as flattened files and .bmp files can only be saved if the file is monochromatic i.e. grayscale. The problem may also be that the files you mentioned Tif, PSD, PDF etc are the typical fomats for 16 bit images. Make sure that the image you want to save is not 16 bit then save the file (unless of course you need a 16 bit image then you will have to use one of the Tif, PSD, PDF fomats.

Hi audrey22,

Yes this should be possible however you will have to reduce (scale) the image you are cloning from to make the patern a reduced size in the destination file. This may take a bit of trial and error or you could create a new layer in the destination file to clone onto and then scale that layer to the desired result.

HI Purrsia,

Have you tried the “Colour Range” function located in the “Select” Pull down menu. Try arawing a marquee around the eye area (making sure the image layer where the eyelash info is selected, this will not work properly id an adjustment layer or existing mask is selected) and then select “Colour Range” from the “Select” menu. Then using the “eyedropper” tool (it should already be the default selection) select (click) the eyelash colour in the image. The “colour range” ‘palette’ will have a black and white dispaly showing the selection in white that you will be making. Adjust the ‘Fuzziness’ threshold + or – until you get the desired result or you can also add mre to your selection by using the ‘Add to Sample’ eyedropper. After yuor selection is made I suggest you feather it slightly too reducew the hard edge and also use quick mask to add or remove any areas the colour range function may have missed. Then simply use this selection to create a layer mask.

I belive this occurs due to the version of transparency flattening when exporting the PDF from InDesign. It should not be harmful to the final print output of the PDF and should disappear once the Printer has refined the PDF for their processing. This occurs in the flattening of Acrobat 4 version 1.3 PDF’s (which is the standard in PDF/x -3:2002) from InDesign but not in Acrobat 5 version 1.4, so probably best to see if your printer will accept 1.4 version PDF’s and just use that setting. But like I said before it shouldn’t be aproblem for final output.

Hi jaru,

Tricky problem you’ve got there, The best solution for this problem is to close PS and trash/delete your ‘Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.psp’ prefereces file from your machine (run a search for the above name if you can’t find it) and re open PS. This will reset your palette positions and ‘Blending Options’ will come up in the middle of your screen when next selected.

Hey There,

Yes it is possible to convert a selection to a path. First make the selection and then select ‘Make Work Path’ from the pull down menu in the ‘Paths’ palette. You’ll have to set a tolerance for the path between 0 – 10 i.e. the lower the tolerance the greater the number of points in the path and the path is more complex and the higher the tolerance the lower the number of points and the work path is simpler. However I would suggest against this option as paths created from selections are not always that accurate. If this is for the purpose of clipping and image (deep etching, contouring) I would suggest using the selection to create a clipping mask for the layer or create the path myself and then use that to create my selection fro clipping mask.
