My 8mm camera is a late 90’s (I think) sony. The only outputs are the video and audio (mono) phono type jacks. It’s the only way to transfer the video to anything else. I used to just copy it directly to DVD, but that recording DVD player gave up, and I am looking to copy directly to the PC via a phono/USB adapter. Barring that, I’m looking to burn DVD via the PC using the same cable setup, then edit in Vegas.

When I tried to get it into vegas, I have the camera on, all cables plugged in, vegas running, and click on “video capture”, chose the DV option, and the transfer program comes on and tells me the adapter is off. As I mention, it does briefly see the USB adapter if I unplug and plug it in.

Playing with it a bit, if I unplug and plug the USB cord while in I have Sony video capture on, it recognizes it briefly, then gives the same message.

I did not know about the firewire only compatibility.

Right now, I have the software that came with the cord, and will see if it works well enough to get it to DVD, and will also look at whats out there for firewire capture gear.

    Mike,
While I didn’t see a audio tab at the top, nor a preferences on any of the drop down menus, I did see something I missed before-under the options tab, there was a “mute all audio”, and that was clicked on. I don’t know how I turned it on, but that has solved the problem.

Thank you very much for your help. I’m sure I’ll have a few more questions as I get into the program more.

    Mike,
Thanks. Unfortunately, that was not it. For some reason, this laptop will no longer play any audio with Vegas. I have rebooted the laptop, and that didn’t help. I just don’t know what happened here.
