    Hi all, first post here.
I’ve got SV 10 installed on a laptop temporarily until I build my new desktop with all the bells and whistles.
I’m still in the learning stage for this program, and have played with editing a couple of short videos. First was messing the the Downfall bunker scene. The audio disappeared, but I didn’t pay too much attention to it, as I was just learning the program. Then I did a short clip of our family, playing with the FX and the like, and delibrately turned off the sound and put in captions.
Then I imported some other family videos. I still don’t get sound when I am editing it. I do know this third video has sound, because you can hear it when you play it normally (outside of SV). You can also see the data in the audio track in SV, so it’s there, its just not working. I have not turned the sound off on the track, BUT when clicking around, when I click on the audio FX button, and in the small window that pops up, there is a line that says “Track 4 (muted)”.

I can’t seem to find anything that will “unmute”, and I have the volume turned all the way up in both the program and in windows.

About the only thing I haven’t tried is rebooting the PC, and I’m not sure this will help since the audio works in other applications.

    Any thoughts?

Oh yes, I did notice some small thing-in the Track number box, there is sometimes this tiny blinking white square. What is this? Does it indicate recording or something else I might have turne don accidently?

    Thanks, John

Pressing the Z key will mute and un-mute whatever track is currently selected.

All that the blinking white square means is that you’ve clicked on the track header.

    Mike,
Thanks. Unfortunately, that was not it. For some reason, this laptop will no longer play any audio with Vegas. I have rebooted the laptop, and that didn’t help. I just don’t know what happened here.

John, check the Windows sound control unit (I have no idea what it’s called these days) and make sure something didn’t accidentally get lowered or muted.
Another place to check is in the Audio tab of Vegas Preferences and make sure that some type of audio device is selected.

    Mike,
While I didn’t see a audio tab at the top, nor a preferences on any of the drop down menus, I did see something I missed before-under the options tab, there was a “mute all audio”, and that was clicked on. I don’t know how I turned it on, but that has solved the problem.

Thank you very much for your help. I’m sure I’ll have a few more questions as I get into the program more.

John, I’m glad to hear that you got it sorted out.

By audio preferences, I mean going Options – Preferences -Audio Device.
