  • I was using a 2k monitor before.

I’m accustomed to seeing a 1500px wide photo almost fill the screen at 100% in Photoshop.

Now that I am using a 5k monitor, that same photo at 100% fills only about a third of the screen.
It’s hard to see the effects of any sharpening I do for web.

There’s nothing I can do about this, i know. I should have thought about that before I got an iMac with a 5k display.

But I was wondering how other deal with this, if at all.

Thing is what makes sense doesn’t always matter. Like I said before, I get all kinds of specs from Stations. Some of them are very specific, some of them are so brief it almost seems like they’re annoyed they have to tell you. And I don’t always trust the people making/sending these specs. Over half of them seem to be more interested in teaching you how to use an FTP program to send them rather than making sure you prep the video correctly for them.

  • Wow, what a fantastic tip! I always thought that the timecode in the lower left and right of the Program Window was just copy of the playhead location. I never really looked it that closely before.
That will come in very handy.

  • Okay, thanks.
I’ve been doing it wrong all this time then.
Tomorrow starts a new day though.

  • So, if my spot is :15 seconds long, should it end here like this?

  • That’s what I’ve been doing. Ending a :30 at 29:29, and a :15 at 14:29.
I’m using Timecode. I assume it’s drop frame, but does it matter for a such a short video?
    The starting number is 00;00;00;00

  • Ah, Eureka! A winner!
I got the Change to Color effect to work when I Change: Hue, Saturation & Color. The default settings didn’t do anything so that’s why I was stumped.

Thanks again. This is exactly what I was looking for.

  • I did find the Change to Color effect but it doesn’t seem to do anything. But, since you’ve said you use it all the time, I’m sure I’m just not using it correctly. At least now I have a lead. I’ll research this effect now. Thanks!

  • Thanks, I’ll look into this. I’m more of an After Effects guy so there’s a lot to get used to here in PPRO.

    Nevermind, I found the answer.

For anyone else stumbling on this thread and you want to include SD safe margins along with your HD margins, click the Wrench Icon, select Safe Margins to turn them.

Then click the Wrench icon again and select Overlay Settings and then Settings.

Find the check box which says “Include 4:3 Safe Margin”.
