Hi Walter,
Uncompressed with FCP is nearly done. We demoed it at NAB. Video and audio capture and playback is complete, we’re just working on tape deck control now.We will submit the SD-Connect to Apple once the uncompressed drivers are complete.

Hi Chris,
For the analog/digital I/O with FCP, also consider the Convergent Design SD-Connect. It has composite, component, s-video, sdi with embedded audio, 4 channels of AES and balanced analog audio I/O. It can do DV over firewire or uncompressed over firewire with FCP. It also has RS-422 to control a deck.

Hi Peter,
Oops!
There would be no advantage to use the SD-Connect in your case. I assume you use it for analog to SDI conversions? Have you seen the new RS-422 loop thru control? Also, we just added 422 to 1394 control.Regards,

Firewire is faster in sustained data rate than USB2.
Take a look at some hardware review sites to see benchmark comparisons for various drives.John Schell

Hi Peter,
You could take the SDI out from your deck into the SD-Connect and transport this video uncompressed to Premiere and vice versa.
Does your deck have RS-422 control? The SD-Connect can take commands from Premiere and convert them to RS-422 commands for your deck.

Convergent Design was in fact demonstrating the uncompressed over firewire capture and playback at NAB with Premiere. We are developing the tape deck control now. If you would like to beta test the new drivers, send an email to sales at convergent-design.com. I expect a set of fairly polished drivers available in May.

Hi John,
When you are ready to make the move to FCP with uncompressed, take a look at the Convergent Design SD-Connect. It is a transcoder box that offers uncompressed 8 bit or 10 bit over 1394 as well as DV over 1394. It has SDI with embedded audio, component, composite, s-video, 4 channels of balanced analog and AES/EBU I/O and RS-422 tape deck control. Check out our website for more information:

Hi Jeremy,
You might also consider the Convergent Design SD-Connect. It works great with FCP and includes RS-422 tape deck control with frame accurate insert/assemble editing capability. The SD-Connect has component, composite, s-video, SDI with embedded audio, 4 channels of AES/EBU, and 4 channels of balanced analog audio I/O. We are also working on an update to allow uncompressed over firewire support with FCP in the near future.
