Found that Soundtrack Pro does something similar to what you’re describing but it’s a workflow step that you don’t have to do in Vegas and doesn’t work for video at all as far as I can see. I’ve covered up a lot of potential sound issues in my time using the fades in Vegas. Dragging two clips together and having both audio and video crossfade is a feature I sorely miss in FCP. Fannying around with transitions just seems a little backward by comparison.

Vegas has a lot of nifty little tricks up its sleves that the coders at Apple could do with having a look at (no one at the Apple store in Londons Regent Street had even heard of Vegas!). But it feels like a Fisher Price, My First Editing System compared to FCP. Wouldn’t hesitate to reccommend it to anyone who just wanted to mess about with some home movie though.

Vegas is a great little app but feels like a toy compared to FCP. It is a lot more flexable (esp in the formats that it can take in) but I’m beginning to realise that’s not such a great thing – you get very sloppy very quickly.

I’ll stick a feature request in and cross my fingers. Got a feeling it might be being added to a very long list….

Know where you’re coming from. I’m not that great a camerman by a long way (prefer to record sound/direct/edit) so this has been a lifesaver. The static versions were sending me to sleep.

Not going to tell anyone who’s going to see the vid what I’ve done – they’ve commented today about how fluid it’s looking! Feel like I’m cheating but what the hey… 😉

This whole experiance has reinforced how much I love working with Vegas. Been with it pretty much since day one (I was already an experianced Acid user when they added this video window thingy) and have to double take every now and then to believe how far it’s come. No longer a micky mouse plaything to say the least.

Thanks for your swift response – up against it with the deadline so didn’t want to go down any blind alleys.

Hurrah!!! This has been something i’ve been trying to do with DV for years with mixed results. The HDV footage is a joy to work with – even the most subtle changes are adding so much life to what would otherwise be dull subjects.

Only problem is that I can se myself getting used to this way of working and when HD does eventually take over i’ll be back to the frustration of square one.

Anyway, off to make hay whilst the sun’s shining.
