[Martin Stanesby] “if it’s not about deinterlacing the footage…why does Vegas call this option ‘deinterlace’?”
Sorry if I didn’t explain it clearly. It absolutely is about deinterlacng the footage but not about you “wanting” the footage to be deinteraced but rather Vegas Pro “needing” the footage to be deinterlaced to perform some operations. Confusing I know.
[Martin Stanesby] “I would h ae thought Vegas would default this option if interlaced footage MUST be deinterlaced….why have the option for none?? “
It’s an option because you might want to use a 3rd part deinterlacer like the one that comes with Boris Continuum Complete. So Sony gives you the option of using theirs or providing your own but you need to provide your own deinterlacer if your footage is interlaced and you set this to None. They forget to warn you about that one and allow you to “shoot yourself in the foot”.

[Martin Stanesby] “Yes you are correct it is set to none. However, it’s no de-interlacing that I’m wanting to do. This does resolve the issue by de-interlacing, but I needed to produce an interlaced 50i project which may be used for broadcast.”
It’s not about what you want to do. It’s about what Vegas Pro needs to do. If you have interlaced footage you MUST select a deinterlace method because Vegas Pro may need to deinterlace the footage to process it and then re-interlace it. If you disable this, you will only get horribly squiggled video like in your example.
This has nothing to do with delivering interlaced video for broadcast. This is purely about Vegas Pro processing the video internally. Essentially what this parameter is asking is, “If Vegas should need to deinterlace the video for any reason, which method should it choose?” It doesn’t cause the video to be deinterlaced. It just tells Vegas how to handle deinterlacing when it needs to. For example, if you zoom in, Vegas needs to first deinterlace the video, then zoom in, then reinterlace it. By selecting None, it is zooming in without deinterlacing which makes the interlacing look like big squiggles.

What is your deinterace setting in your project properties? If it’s set to None, that’s what’s causing the problem.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the kind words. It’s nice to know my efforts are appreciated.
As for Green Screen Lighting. You want to have two sets of lights. On to light the green screen and a completely different set to light the talent. The Green Screen lights should be soft lighting (soft box or florescents). At least two, one on each side, to light the screen evenly. Use the Zebras on your camera to ensure even coverage. The separate set of lights on the talent should include a backlight or “hair light” as it’s sometimes called, to light them from behind. This will help separate them from the background. Adding a Magenta Gell to the backlight will help neutralize any green spill. I like to also light my talent with a soft box as the key and a white bounce card as the fill but light them any way you’d like to fit the scene you will place them in after the keying. Remember the light source on the talent needs to match the light source of the background that you will key in later. Finally keep the talent sufficiently in front of the green screen so as to avoid green spill. You will thank yourself in post. 😉
Those are just some tips off the top of my head.

July 5, 2016 at 4:39 pm in reply to: Slow motion stuttering despite usual checks – No clue why!Yea that does look like progressive 50p. If your project is 25p, and you set your playback to .500 it should just playback smoothly at 1/2 speed. I’m not sure it would stutter.

July 5, 2016 at 1:57 pm in reply to: Slow motion stuttering despite usual checks – No clue why!Is the footage 50p or 50i? It sounds like it might be 50i. Use a tool like MediaInfo and post the text properties here so we can see what you are working with. You might also want to post your project property just so people can see.

If it shows CUDA available then try a render with something like GPUZ running and see if if there is any GPU activity. My understanding is that you need to be using a GTX 5xx or lower for CUDA to work with renders.

Neither. The AMD is a horrible processor for video editing (it is weaker than an Intel Core i5) and Vegas Pro doesn’t support the GTX 950 for rendering. So you are stuck with the AMD CPU for renders.
If you want great performance with Vegas Pro, try an Intel Core i7 CPU and AMD Radeon HD 69xx or 290x GPU.

Glad you got it fixed. Not sure what could have caused it. 1984! Maybe it expired and you just had to renew it (like a Library card). lol 😀

It sounds like it may be a permissions problem. Right-click on the Folder in the Finder windows and select Get Info. Then at the bottom in the Sharing & Permissions section see if your account has Read & Write or No Access.
