Thanks, I suspected CS4 had something to do with it. I’ll do a complete uninstall and re-install tonight when I get back to my desktop. I’ll let you know how I make out.
As for BLUE, it stopped giving me that error when I back-leveled to that driver. I now realize that it is the only supported driver and not that level or greater.

I’ve never used a Sony HDD camera but I do have a Sony HVR-DR60 hard disk recording unit and I used the Vegas media import once but didn’t like how it worked. The HVR-DR60 came with it’s own import utility that I liked a lot better and that’s what I use now. Did your camera come with any software to import the media to your hard drive? If so, I would use that.
Importing is just a file copy. In the case of my DR60 the unit is FAT32 formatted so it must split long files at 4GB boundaries. The import utility stitches these back together into the original length of the clips I shot. I didn’t think that Vegas did this which is another reason I use the DR60 utility instead. It gives me my original shot lengths back.
My point is, that Vegas import is nothing more that an elaborate file copy. Does the Sony HDD show up as an external drive on your PC. If so, why not just drag and drop the files onto your PC hard drive and forget Vegas import all together? Then just work with the files on your hard drive. (just something to try)

Because a 720×480 DVD is NEVER going to look as good as the 1920×1080 HD source. The m2t has 5x the resolution. If you want discs that look as good as your source you need to buy a Blu-ray burner and Blu-ray player. Your DVD’s should look great for a DVD which is as good as DVD’s get.

As a Avid Liquid user ask yourself if you would move to Avid Pinnacle Studio? That’s the comparison. The Vegas Studio version is for home users doing small projects and the Vegas Pro version is for professional work. Pick the one that fits your category of work.

Vegas doesn’t take advantage of a graphics card so it really doesn’t matter what you get. Vegas replies solely on CPU power for preview and render. The memory on a graphics card is used for textures and primarily by 3D games.
With a 2.8GHZ P4 you are at the bare minimum requirement for editing HD. You might want to consider upgrading to a more powerful computer. At a minimum, I would do some editing in HD with what you have and be sure that your current computer is fast enough for you before you start investing in upgrades.

Just drag it into the Windows\Fonts directory to install it in Windows. Vegas will only see fonts that are installed in Windows.

I would just search for countdown video on Google. You can also create one easily with a tool like Boris RED or After Effects.

Lynn, I’m glad you understand things a bit better. Feel free to ask lots of questions. That’s how we all learn.
You will be hard pressed to find a consumer camera that takes good low light pictures. This is because the CCD/CMOS chips are too small (1/3 inch or less!) and the pixel count is too high. What has happened in the “pixel wars” is that consumers think that more is better but that’s only true if you increase the size of the chip. Unfortunately, packing more pixels into the same size chip results in smaller pixels which are less sensitive to light thus giving poorer and poorer low light performance every time they up the pixel count. The old analog cameras were much, much better in low light than any consumer camera you can buy today, mostly due to their large chips and lower pixel count. And they call that progress? 🙁

Actually, Apple iTunes has one of the most liberal policies of any on-line music site. I buy all of my music there because of it.
While you can’t drop the mp4 files directly into Vegas, iTunes allows you to burn the music you buy to CD. You could then import the CD into Vegas using File | Extract Audio from CD…

You can’t do this with ACID and, in general, this is very difficult to do. It’s like trying to remove the eggs from a cake after it’s baked!
If the vocals are panned dead center and everything else in the mix is panned slightly left and right, you could invert the phase of one of the stereo channels which would effectively cancel everything that was equal volume on both tracks. Unfortunately, sometimes the bass guitar is also panned dead center and this would remove that too.
Sound Forge has a “vocal cut” setting on the Channel Converter that will do this for you. Also AnalogX has a Vocal Remover plug-in that works on the same principal. Search Google for vocal remover plug-ins and you get a few things to try. Unfortunately, none of them are very good.
