I’ve got a Sony CX12 (which is the essentially the same camera without the hard drive) and the MPG files drop into Vegas without any additional codecs or problems. Perhaps the files are corrupt in some way? Did you just drag them off of the camera HDD? (that’s what I do with the memory stick) Are you sure the are MPG (standard DVD MPEG-2) and not AVCHD renamed? The camera shoots both.

There is no easy way to do this. Velocity envelopes don’t work very well when you have audio that needs to stay in sync. They are really for action scenes with background music and voice overs. You might want to just forget the envelope and slice and stretch the audio and video together.

Unfortunately, I believe you have to start all over again. 🙁

This is why people still use 3rd party multicam tools with Vegas like Ultimate S Pro, infinitCAM, and Excalibur. They still offer advantages over Sony’s one way edits like maintaining the original taracks and allowing you to add a new track to the edit at any time.

I went out and bought one of these over the Holiday and the quality is exactly the same as what you shot. It just copies the source AVCHD files over from your memory card. If you use 4GB memory cards, this is a great way to archive each one to DVD at full quality.

John, Thanks for bringing this unit to my attention. It was a very worthwhile purchase.

What format is the music you are trying to add to your project? Try using a WAV file or MP3. Those should work fine.

The red and black frames are a bug in Vegas. It’s Vegas’ way of saying that it is having problems displaying the frame. Sometimes it’s a memory / resource issue, sometimes it’s unexplainable. Sony has acknowledged the problem and is trying to fix it. I have seen them in my own work. I usually just exit Vegas and start it again and everything is fine. It would be great if Sony could fix this but it’s nothing to do with your footage or anything you are doing wrong.

I would forget about using Sony PMB. In Vegas Pro use File | Import | AVCHD Camcorder…. This may be why I’m not having any problems.

I haven’t used any resolution other than FH 16MB so maybe HQ 9MB is only 1440×1080. Interesting.

Actually, it doesn’t. It is just reading the name of the unknown device from a known location. It’s part of the device protocol. So Vista asks the device it’s name, the device replied with the string “JVC SR-VS30” and Vista has no idea what that means but it looks to you like it recognised it becasue it knew it’s name. It just knows that there is a device with a name and nothing more.

I’d imagine that if they would have worked, Vista would have used them. I don’t know how you could force Vista to use them. You migth try the Add Hardware option in the Control Panel and try and find those drivers and see if Vista will use them but if there is no INF file I don’t think it will work.

Since the remuxing is combining files, I would say that you need at least twice the size of the files in free hard drive space for the process to complete. Depending on how big the files are, it could very well be that you are running out of disk space for the program to use.
