    > I have a main menu in DVD Arch that has 3 seperate videos on it. I set the end action-destination of one of them to my transistion media.

Not sure how you are doing this but this is where you are going wrong. You cannot change the destination of a button that is created by dropping a video onto the menu. If you look at the Action property for that button you will see that Destination is grayed out and lock to the original video. (which is exactly what you are experiencing.)

You need to insert an Empty Button. Make the Destination of the Action of that empty button start the transition video. Make the End-Action of the transition video start the real video. Make the End-Action of the real video return to the menu.

Did you specify the correct frames per second when you imported the image sequence and is your project set to the same frames per second? If not, you are seeing the frames that Vegas has to create because the fps doesn’t match between the media and the project.

Telephones only let a narrow band around 1Khz through. Use the Track EQ and boost at 1K and cut everything on either side. Adjust the width of the cut to your liking but everything below 500 and above 1.5K should do the trick.

I use Bulk Rename Utility 2.3. It’s free and it can sequentially rename a whole folder of files with just a few clicks.

March 18, 2009 at 9:24 pm in reply to: Dynamic RAM Preview Max

    > I’ve created several nestable projects (working with stills).

How big are the stills? What are the dimensions of your project. The stills should be no more than 2x the project dimensions. If you are not zooming, you can even make them match the project dimensions, especially if it’s an HD project. Using multi-megabyte stills is not recommended.

    > Each may have 2 to 5 tracks, some with 3D Alpha Track Motion.

3D Track Motion is very processor intensive all on it’s own. Add to that the fact that still images are being resized at the rate of 30fps and you are almost guaranteed stuttering preview.

    > I tried playing around with the Preview Max value. The window itself is set to Preview(Auto) because I thought I read in the manual that’s a good value to use.

Yes, but sometimes you need to go down to Draft (Auto) mode depending how the demands of the project and power of the CPU.

    > I’ve been playing with these values, 128 to 768MB, Preview(…) and can’t seem to get the Preview window to be more … “smooth” (for lack of a better term).

You’re confusing the Preview setting with the Dynamic RAM Preview setting which are two different things. Changing the MB will not affect the preview window at all. This is only for RAM preview which is invoked by making a timeline selection and pressing Shift+B. This dynamically renders the timeline selection to RAM for guaranteed smooth playback. The amount of RAM you use for this determines how large a timeline selection you can make.

    > Do I need to use one of the Blue Ray specific choices?

That’s what they’re there for. If you didn’t use one of the Blu-ray templates then that’s why DVD Architect wants to recompress them. I’ve always used the Blu-ray templates and I’ve never had a problem with recompression.

MPEG-2 using the NTSC Widescreen DVD Architect video stream template is what I use to deliver my HD footage on a regular DVD and it looks darn good. Not as good as my Blu-ray version but a really high quality DVD none the less.

March 18, 2009 at 12:55 pm in reply to: Vegas corruption…

The Vegas Script API has several “nasty” bugs with regard to Media bins and I have just learned to code around them. I have my own set of routines that handle this and catch exceptions. One behavior to be aware of is what you have just found: Removing media from a bin does not remove it from the pool. Your code must first remove from the bin and then remove from the pool in that order, to avoid this condition. One might think that removing it from the pool would remove it from all bins but that’s not the behavior that’s implemented.

Another one is when bins report themselves as their own parent bin which throws you into an infinite recursion unless you limit it with a counter in your code. You just learn to live with these quirks.
