[James McCabe] “I installed the version of Quicktime you suggested and .. it worked!”

Just like it’s 2007 all over again! 😉

You’re welcome. Glad that fixed it.

[Mike Anthony] “Looking back on this post I’m surprised you understood what my issue even was.”

The key for me was that you wanted to move the frame and it was getting cut off. That tells me you are probably using PanCrop when you should be using Track Motion. 😉

Glad that got it working the way you wanted.

You’re welcome. That should keep your keyframes in sync with the timeline.

February 7, 2016 at 5:02 pm in reply to: GPU required for MacPro6,1 running OSX 10.11

[Ehtesham Khan Ham] “AMD FirePro D700 works on Open CL architecture…and Nvidia works on Open GL…”

Actually that’s not quite correct. Open GL is an API for rendering 2D and 3D vector graphics. It has nothing to do with processing video (other than vector graphics titles and such) and works equality well on AMD and NVIDIA GPU’s as does Open CL which is a general purpose computation API for parallel processing.

[Ehtesham Khan Ham] “The question is which is the best External GPU support for NEW MACPRO 2016 that will feed the GPU Hungry applications like resolve and scratch… ??”

Danvinci Resolve requires Open CL which the Mac Pro’s dual FirePro D700s already support. I’m not sure why there’s a question here.

[James McCabe] “I did roll back my Quicktime once to accommodate a problem I had before that resulted in only sound being recorded but I did not roll back to the Quicktime you recommend.”

Yea, the problem that you are going to have is in trying to recreate the right set of older software that Vegas Pro 8 was designed to work with back in 2007. It’s tricky to get 9 year old software to work correctly. You have to maintain other software at back-levels to remain compatible. Good luck!

[Mike Anthony] “I want to position the video on top in a way where part of it is poking its way in from the side of the frame like this, but I cant, because it gets cut off in the center and I can’t move it to the edge. How can I fix this without making the video all stretched and distorted? I simply want to move a video clip slightly off frame.”

Use Track Motion. Wherever you want to positions something, use Track Motion and nothing will ever get cut off.

February 7, 2016 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Are Sony Vegas skills marketable?

[Russ Froze] “To wit, I’d like to thank you and Douglas Spotted Eagle for not continually billing me for Ultimat S. “

Hey, if you guys want to send me a check every month wouldn’t that be nice! lol

[Russ Froze] “Another thing that I don’t agree with is the fact that these subscription licences need to be online.”

That is another thing that I (and we at VASST) never believed in and that’s “Activation”. What an insult to your customers to treat them like criminals while the criminals are using pirated copies that don’t have activation! It stops no one but your honest customers from using the software they paid for. it’s insane!!!

I have 4 Macs: A 2008 Mac Pro, a 2010 Mac Pro, and Mac Mini, and a MacBook Pro. All of the software that I purchase from Apple I buy once and have installed on all 4 of my Macs (FCP X, Motion, Compressor, Logic Pro X, etc). Not so with other greedy vendors. Adobe CS6 can only be on 2 of them at one time! Some plug-ins only allow me to put them on 1 of them!!! Needless to say they fooled me once, but I will never buy software a second time from a vendor who doesn’t trust me to use it on the computers that I own. When configuring a new OS install, I dread having to relicense all of my 3rd party plug-ins and applications, but with Apple, I only have to put in my Apple ID and everything re-installs itself without any problems including 3rd party software that I purchased from the Apple Store (e.g., Pixelmator, Affinity Design, Affinity Photo, etc.). Every vendor should trust their customers because the people who steal their software, never were customers to begin with!

This is why VASST uses a simply license key that allows you to install our plug-ins on however many computers that you own. We don’t lock a license to a particular computer, we don’t “activate” back to a license server in the sky that requires you to be on-line. All of that is just a hassle for customers who purchased your software legally. Yea, I know there are pirated copies of our software out there but you know what… people who would use a pirated copy were never going to buy your software to begin with so it’s really not a lost sale. Legitimate customers pay for their software and enjoy the support that it brings.

(hang on while I get down off of this soap box… i think I’m getting a nose bleed from the altitude… there… that’s better) 😀

  • As Glenn has pointed out this cannot be done in Vegas Pro. If you don’t want to edit nested projects as he suggested you can open two instances of Vegas Pro and select all of the events from one and paste them into the other. You will loose any track based FX or envelopes so this isn’t perfect but it’s as good as it gets.

[James McCabe] “I could not find a copy of Quicktime 7.76.80.95 but tried installing 7.79.80.95 but I still have had no luck.”

This is all ancient history but it’s coming back to me now. At some point a QuickTime update broke Vegas Pro and Sony fixed it but if you had a copy of Vegas Pro prior to that, you needed to stick with the older version of QuickTime. this may be what you are battling.

Vegas Pro 8.0 recommends Apple® QuickTime® 7.1.6. A quick Google search reveals that Apple has it on a page cleverly entitled:

    QuickTime 7.1.6 for Windows

I would uninstall whatever QuickTime you have and install this version and see if it fixes anything. Also make sure that you are using the latest version of Vegas Pro 8.0c Build 260 or you may be chasing bugs that Sony has already fixed.
