    Thanks Jon,

I’d like to have a RAID6 config, but at least a RAID 5. I’ll probably use the FW 800 when offloading P2 footage and editing (the express34 slot will be used for my Matrox MX02) and the eSATAfor Canon offload. I do currently have the express card to eSATA adapter.

Thanks for the update Jon….most likely going to pick one up. Let me know where to get it…I’m in South FL. Also, wanted to make sure it writes in the 150-200 Megs/Sec range for editing. Any place on the site you post the specs?

    Cheers,
    John

Nicholas, can you let me know what solution you ended up using. I am having the same issue…we had a 3 cam shoot and the cams were set to 720/30PN, but one of them was in “film” mode which I guess recorded it at 23.98. Like you said, the footage plays fast when loaded into FCP and I can’t seem to find any setting to get it normal speed. Thanks!

Now my questions is…when you offloaded the original P2 files, did you do it by connecting the camera directly to an HDD that was formatted by the camera?

I totally agree with Michael. Single enclosure, mirrored drive…that way you always have two copies of the original footage. I never recommend only having the transcoded FCP files and dumping the original P2 wrapper.

As far as time goes, when I fill a 32GB card and dump to a FW800 drive with the MBP, it seems to do about 2X speed. About 16mins for 32 mins of footage.

Yes, you can on the P2 Mobile, but the drive has to be formated by the P2 Mobile, so it doesn’t work for what I need.

I finally figured it out tonight (and with the help of Panasonic!) P2 Viewer, a PC software from Panasonic, allows you to do transfer from the drive back to P2. What I had to do was format an empty drive in FAT 32, copy the cards from my MAC formatted drive to the FAT 32 drive, load them into P2 Viewer on my Alienware laptop, and make the transfer that way. Total pain in the ass, but I got it to work! I’m still going to push Panasonic to make a P2 Viewer version for MAC. Thanks for your help!
