RAID6 for MBP
Posted by John Paluzzi on December 7, 2010 at 2:01 amI’m currently using 6 CalDigit VR Firewire external drives daisy chained to my MBP via FW800. 5 are mirrored for protection of P2 footage and still photos….one is a protected RAID for small edit projects in FCP. I’m looking for a single storage solution (RAID6?)that can give me protection and also some speed for the few minor edit projects I do. Thanks for your input!

December 7, 2010 at 9:04 pmJohn,
We have a product coming soon that would fit the bill, but I can’t think of anything off the top of my head at the moment, except maybe something possibly from Drobo….
This is what we have in the works.
SOHORAID SR5Hope that helps for what it’s worth.

January 16, 2011 at 1:26 amThanks for the update Jon….most likely going to pick one up. Let me know where to get it…I’m in South FL. Also, wanted to make sure it writes in the 150-200 Megs/Sec range for editing. Any place on the site you post the specs?
Cheers,

January 16, 2011 at 6:33 pmHey John, throughput is going to depend on the RAID level you use as well as I/O. I\’d need to check our testing results to give you a firm answer on that.
An ExpressCard 34mm to eSATA would be needed for eSATA on your MacBook Pro.
