If you are hell bent on doing your syncing in FCP first, and you don’t want to install the Avid DNX codecs, there is nothing wrong with transcoding to ProRes. Avid can work with that just fine.

You can turn off that behavior in your settings.
Not in front of a system right now, but I believe its in the Media Creation settings on the render tab.
It’s not a bad thing to leave on when doing long renders, but in your case it’s doing more harm than good.

You can select them all in a bin, then use Autosequence to automatically arrange them in a sequence at the appropriate timecode.

You can use the Send To Sorenson Squeeze command.
Basically, this just makes a reference movie with the proper settings. It does not launch Sorenson automatically. Launch Sorenson and drag the file into the main window. There are presets for all types of files, including various levels of h264 compression. This should give you better results than a direct export from Avid.
It’s all fairly self explanatory once you try it.

Avid can create a sequence with the footage layed out based on source timecode automatically.
Just a crazy thought….If you want to edit in FCP, maybe do it with the trial version of Avid, then use Automatic Duck (free) to get the sequence into FCP.

It’s possible you don’t have the latest Blackmagic drivers installed for your Decklink Studio 2 card. Avid has been supported for this card for several years now, but I suppose its possible you never updated if everything was working well for you,
As a former owner of the Decklink Studio 2, I would have to honestly say editing performance was not great with this card with Avid. Trimming was sluggish and there were other annoying performance issues. I eventually sold it and switched to an AJA Kona and everything works as expected. Unfortunately, with Resolve you are kind of stuck with Blackmagic. Perhaps their newer cards perform better with Avid.

Yes…he means turn off V1 on the source side, then match frame again..on the source side…not from the sequence.

I was having similar problems on a Mac. The answer was to do a total manual uninstall. Apparently, the uninstaller does not catch everything. Avid support walked me through it. I don’t know the procedure for PC, unfortunately.

Some cable boxes have analog component out, which is a pretty decent quality signal and does not have DRM problems.

FCP and Premiere have “multimedia” editing roots. Avid is primarily a broadcast/film editor and only works well with standard video formats. That’s just how it is. Not really the best tool for custom or non-standard sources. If you have access to FCP or Premiere, I’d recommend using either over avid for this kind of work.
Another problem you may face , is that the iPhone and other phone camera shoot VARIABLE frame rate. You’ll need to convert to a fixed frame rate, while fixing the orientation in another program
