  • Premiere does what you suggest. Its essentially a sequence in that NLE. Not so in Avid. No adjustments are possible after a group clip is created.

First. Do not use MPEG Streamclip. Everything you need is within Adobe Creative Cloud already.

Without knowing anything about your system , it’s hard to make a judgement about whether you can work with H.264 files natively. Many systems can. Adobe Premiere Pro CC is designed to work natively if your system is up to it.

If you want to use a proxy workflow, here is a document describing that

Starting with MC 8.5, they rearranged the menus to make them more logical in layout.

There’s a table in the read me for 8.5 that explains it

    Agree with Glenn.

I’d retain the original frame rates, if possible. There is a performance penalty if you have a lot of motion adapters in your sequence, but you should be fine. May have to render more often as the timeline grows.
Nothing worse than finding out after you baked in the frame rate conversion in a transcode that there is ghosting or other artifacts that could easily be corrected by adjusting motion adapter settings.

July 11, 2016 at 8:16 pm in reply to: Audio Pan??

Not sure if this relates but this is in the “what’s new” for 8.6

The Audio Setting “Default Pan for mono tracks” is a user setting that controls the following:
    • Whenever a mono clip in a sequence has no pan information, this setting determines how it is panned.
    • Whenever a mono source clip is edited into a sequence, the selected default plan is applied to the new clip in the sequence.
With this release, a sequence created entirely in Media Composer v8.6 or later will have pan information on every clip, so that when moving this sequence to another user’s workstation, it will play with the same pan as the originator, without regard to how the second user has configured the default pan. Sequences created before Media Composer v8.6, or sequences imported from non Media Composer sources, may still have audio clips that do not have pan information associated with them. These clips will still be played with the default pan.

I think Scott has this right…I’ve seen this before.

What is being reported as the pixel aspect ratio(you may have to make the appropriate column visible)

I don’t recommend upgrading in the middle of a project, but if you have yet to get going on it, you might consider going to Media Composer 8.6.
The new Source Browser makes everything so much easier …very similar to the one in Adobe. File ingest is much more elegant and functional. You can even preview stuff before linking.
There is also a new RED AMA plugin that is touted as a 4x speed increase, though I have not had a chance to test that for myself.

Did Avid ask you what timecode rate to assign when you imported?
