I found that Vegas 14 still doesn’t load the ts files I use, from Technomate Sat receiver.
I use ffmpeg to deal with it. Usually you may only need 1 audio stream and 1 video stream.
There are sometimes multiple audio streams, and depending on the tv channel, or source material, the audio you need may not always be in the same position, video position varies also, positions starting obviously at 0. For my needs, I then convert 1 video and 1 audio stream, remapped to another .ts file. Not what you need perhaps, but I then used ffmpeg to convert the remapped second .ts file to h264 .mp4 file, the quality set by ffmpeg CRF value. The output quality can be set from low to no loss, not recommended as no loss may have compatibility issues.

I took the opportunity to reinstall and register “again” the NewBlue titler, it had crashed and failed to register previously. An update was available, 160824 goes to 160926, so I installed it.
Dropped it in and no crash! Guess I’ll have to learn how to use it now, LOL.

My 2 cents …
Pros ..
1. Very generous offer, I paid €199 last summer, and went from SVP EDIT version to Magix Vegas PRO version (Mercalli very nice bonus) plus ver. 13 that I didn’t need.
2. New users can now get, until the 16th-October, Magix Vegas PRO version for €249, no previous version needed.
3. Some new features, HEVC, PRO-Res, Smart up-sampling, (Smart-zoom? maybe).
4. Keeping layout UI similar to old, so for now no big change, (black icons, yuck).
5. No interference with existing ver 13, can be run on same PC as ver 14.
6. Vegas Pro is still alive, at least continued development is assured.
7. More devices/codecs supported.
8. Bug fixes.
9. Still allows install on 2 machines, as long as only using one at any one time.
10. Very good tutorials available.
11. Same development team I understand, thats good for sure.Cons ..
1. Graphic card support still 2010 era, my biggest disappointment by far.
2. Black icons are hard to differentiate from each other when they’re small on a high res. monitor. Maybe give users the option to change, or just go back to previous.
3. NewBlue Titler bundled with MVP 14 is buggy, v/poor or maybe non existing testing with MVP14 prior to launch.
4. Some new bugs.
5. Some may disagree with this but perhaps the project file extension should have been changed. Double-clicking on a .veg project file loads ver 13, maybe not what’s desired. After all, ver. 14 projects are not compatible with ver. 13, and thats ok, but, a different extension would allow seeing at a glance which was created with which version, going forward.
6. Previously the full program was downloaded first, then you would run and install in one go. I don’t know where the full program is kept, just the stub downloader, maybe this is to prevent bootlegging?
7. Communication in general leaves something to be desired.
8. Is their a .pdf manual available for version 14? If so where is it? If not, why not?Anyway, I’m delighted that the show is on the road again, best of luck to all, developers and users …

September 30, 2016 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Magix Upgrade Offer requirements qualifying product requirements? You were right about that George, no serial number required! My friend purchased MVP 14, no problem., 1st link below. The 2nd link below gave the impression that it wasn’t possible after entering a serial no. for Sony Vegas Platinum Suite = Sony Vegas Platinum Suite as best option.

I went for the summer offer and am happy with that.

“I always do single pass render with a slightly higher bitrate”
This is what I do also. I know they are not the same, FFMPEG and MC, although you never know whats under the hood completely, with ffmpeg, 2 pass is used more to target a perticular output file size, than quality (CRF).
As mentioned here already, pick a small section of video, ideally a challenging piece in low light, then increase the bitrate until it improves to what is acceptable, and also where it improves no more, all at 1 pass. If output file size is critical then go 2 pass and do the same testing. That way you can settle on a template thats good enough without having to keep changing, especially if you add a bit extra, i.e. if you find that say, 24/18 is just right then set the template to say 24/20 to cover anything. Assuming size is not critical.

Goes without saying, I suppose, but removing 2 pass would make it quicker!

September 26, 2016 at 5:38 pm in reply to: ProDad Mercalli invalid keycode with Magix V14Actually, I had forgotten that since installing the Win 10 upgrade my HP dv7 laptop only occasionally comes back from “restart”. So I was waiting all day unnecessarily. There were several restarts with this large update.
With win 7 this didn’t happen, probably the dv7 is a little old for win 10. My main reason for putting on win 10 on the PC and laptop was that, going forward, most issues with Magix will probably refer to win 10 installed base.

September 25, 2016 at 8:48 pm in reply to: ProDad Mercalli invalid keycode with Magix V14Hi Steve, problem disappeared about an hour later when I rebooted PC. My laptop was down all day, windows update, freeze, so I could only check now in case the problem was caused by blocking, i.e. with Laptop and PC visible on internet. Anyway that isn’t the case, so just one of those things.
I read a clarification elswhere that with Magix MVP14 you can have it installed on Laptop and PC, once only one is running at any one time. It doesn’t check in regularly after initial installation check … my summary. Similar, no worse, than Sony’s previous system.
