You could try “open file location” within vegas, just right click the off line file. When you get there see if the file is there or not, or has it been accidentally renamed.

Vegas Pro now has a ransomware verision.

December 20, 2017 at 11:34 am in reply to: OT: Prevent copying of USB’s containing MP4 videos possible? One option is to personalize the copies. Have the videos pre-rendered but add an opening title that says, “This video licensed to “name of customer”, Illegal copying is strictly prohibited”. Now when they hand out copies, it has their name on it and everyone knows they are doing something illegal. Shame is about the only option we have left. 😉
I think thats the way to go if charging for individual copies, great idea.
Perhaps it’s possible to concatenate the finished .mp4 with the short licensing intro using say command line for windows or ffmpeg, or something similar for mac, and so not having to re-render.

Couldn’t see how to edit my post.
Meant to say that it appears that to un-select the envelope edit tool then select the normal edit tool.
For example … With normal edit tool selected, envelope edit tool not selected, create a time selection, drag the audio envelope say down, within the selected area to auto create 4 envelope points. Now if you wantesd to delete these or any other points (besides ctrl-z) select the envelope edit tool, draw timeline selection and press the del key.

If you “select” the audio envelope tool at the bottom, default is not selected, then by creating a time selection above the audio envelope points that are of interest to you, you can for example delete only those auto selected points.

September 9, 2017 at 10:09 am in reply to: Vegas 13 two hour MPEG2 render creating huge fileOr, if you want to stay with mpeg2 you could always use DL 50gb Blue-ray discs. The size limit on Single layer is about 23.1GB.

August 10, 2017 at 9:08 am in reply to: What happens to mini dv tapes over time? Do they lose quality?Meant to say (no edit option I can see) that as you may well know, because the data rate for DV is constant, you can easily work out you’re total storage needs, at 13gb per 1 hour tape.

August 10, 2017 at 8:57 am in reply to: What happens to mini dv tapes over time? Do they lose quality?Jeff, are you sure transferring to digital isn’t an option, how many is too much?
Seagate do a very reasonably priced 8tb external archive desktop drive.
In the time it took you to post all of this you would already have digitised 1 tape????.
I recently purchased a firewire card to digitise my “two” DV tapes. Worked really well using the Built in Vegas capture app. It has an option to capture a whole tape as well as selectively by time code. Imho if the content is important to you it’s the way to go.
The great thing about DV as against vhs, svhs, is that you’re “capturing ” (really copying) a file from the tape because its digital, as against analog capture with vhs svhs.

I notice Andrew mentions using nested videos. I have a very similar problem to Danielle but with quite different source material, no quicktime in use, all PAL mpeg, 720×576 25fps.
Basically very simple to edit material, and the nested projects are also similar in type. The problem only starts when I add a piece of nested material. Example, load up project, find one complete video track, (of 6 tracks) is black, close down, reopen and maybe ok to work on all day.
Because the material type is different I picked up on the nesting reference by Andrew.
I’ve never had any issue like this before using nesting.
This is my post on it a few days ago.
They may also be two completely unrelated issues also i.e. one caused by Quicktime limits, and mine by nesting?
Using VP14.

July 5, 2017 at 12:05 am in reply to: Vidbox alternative to firewire for capturing video to computer?“The PINNACLE device was garbage. It had serious audio sync problems. I think it was called the DAZZLE but it was for VHS tapes in SD as well.”
Completely agree. I just got rid of it, kept dropping out, admittidely with very old vhs tapes.
I got a “Honestech” package, that includes the VidBox, USB not firewire, I used it with Nero, the video capture module. Doesn’t drop out like the crappy Dazzle.
