Thanks for thinking about this. This is a stripped down project with just two editable objects:

    11351_connectorwithdelay.c4d.zip

The first time I hit play, the dynamics might play and loop correctly but if I stop and maybe click around the timeline before going back to 0, it start to glitch when it hits the dynamics enable keyframe.
I also tested it on a laptop (rebuilding the project from scratch) and it does the same thing. It’s probably something to do with the way I’m setting things up. Like I say, it will render OK, but in my larger project I need to be able to see the previews.

    Many thanks Cassius,

That did the trick. I’d kind of hacked it by changing the scale and offset, but that is the proper way to do it.

    Great Roei,

    That’s all really helpful.

I’ve done a version like you suggested and now my route sticks to where it should. I decided to use selected frames of a Google Earth movie maker zoom as the basis of my composition build, as it gave me a nicely centred zoom and was less manual than me making snap shots out of the browser. I then used the same mask for each layer to cut off the Google Earth logo.

I’ll need to attribute Google and the relevant satellite provider but I can put that bottom of frame later.

Many thanks for the really clear advice.

    Best wishes,

    John

Thanks Roel. You’ve answered my question perfectly. I’d had half a thought of using that method but thought that it might be time consuming. My zoom is much more extreme than that example. But it probably simplifies things at the end of the day. Is the motion blur necessary to hide the edges of the stills as they zoom or are they really seamless?

I’ll give it a go tomorrow.

    Many thanks,

    John

  • Thanks for your help Pat.

I finally got 8.3.1 installed and it has definitely helped a lot. Occasionally the Avid still goes in to a spin but it’s now far far better. I noticed that it still comes up with some errors in console but now it seems to quit out of whatever loop it was in earlier.

    Best wishes,

    John

  • Hi Pat,

Thanks. Unfortunately that didn’t seem to help.

The strange thing is that the behaviour is inconsistent. For example, this morning, having left the computer on overnight, without shutting down, the problem isn’t occurring yet. But from experience I know that it’ll come back and I won’t be able to do anything about it when it does. Restarting the machine does not help.

It makes me wonder if it’s something to do with background processes, but I’ve no idea which ones they might be. We do have Norton on this machine.

    Thanks,

    John

Hi John. When I enter effects workspace I get two monitors. Now if I alt-click it goes to a tiny single monitor. I can resize this, but no bigger than half the screen width.

I think it’s just something faulty with my version or system setup. I’ll live with it.

    Thanks,

    John

Maybe it’s my install or something to do with the Blackmagic card. The monitors seem to have got a little funky since Avid allowed third party hardware.

Avid is good for editing but the effects interface is in bad need of an overhaul.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks Shane. 7.0.3. Maybe they de-implemented it in this version as it just isn’t working like it used to. Can’t understand why they want to get rid of useful features, rather than add new ones.

    Best wishes,

    John

  • Yes. I used mesh warp on shots in the end. Was easy to make a grid that fitted the table and it all worked quite well.

    Many thanks,

    John
