Thanks John and thanks Michael for your input.

I will definitely be putting a pad on the Rode on the HPX301 as this doesn’t have the benefit of having a built-in mic to rely on as with the HVX200 – I’m just glad I wasn’t missing something else.

    Cheers

I sent mine back to Panasonic under warranty not long after I got my HVX200 because I could swear the back focus was out. It came back saying it was fine and looked just the same and it was then that I realised that I was too used to using higher end viewfinders and that this one is just comparitively soft. The pictures were fine. Maybe this is the same for you.

Thanks for your responses to my question – I appreciate it.

I really fancy the HPX-500 but the extra costs for lenses etc might be too much for me, hence the query about the HPX-300. The form factor is the most important to me as I don’t think I’m getting enough out of myself as an operator from the HVX-200, although it is a great little camera.

The one down side is the Fuji lens (5mm) not being as wide as the one I’ve become used to on the HVX-200 – I only wish that it came with the Canon one (4.2) that the new JVC GYM-700(?) comes with.

I was selling the idea of the new camera to my business partner on the basis that getting the footage into Final Cut and workflow in general will be quicker than sticking with tape, though transfer from my HVX-200 on P2 can only do this at about real time. I’d hate to get it wrong on this. What does everyone think?

    Thanks

  • Hi May

There are three settings in SD mode as mentioned – Normal(4:3); Letterbox(Letterboxed in 4:3 format) and Stretch. This is the setting for true anamorphic footage that you would then drop into your anamorphic sequence in Final Cut. Stretch doesn’t sound like something you’d find on a professional camcorder and can see that it would be easy to steer clear of.

    Hope this helps.

December 17, 2008 at 10:46 am in reply to: LOST LASTCLIP.TXT (aka can’t believe it happened to me)

    Hi

Although aware of the importance of the lastclip.txt, it slipped my mind when shooting on HVX-200 recently. I backed off my footage on the P2 onto a Sonnet Fusion F2 via my MacBook Pro, using Panasonic’s P2CMS and now when I come to use the footage, there isn’t a lastclip.txt file in any of the folders I created on the hard drives. Consequently, I can’t import into Final Cut Pro 6.

Can anyone throw any light on what I’ve done wrong?

    Thanks

    Hi

When you use the Fusion F2 in the field on a MacBook Pro, do use a firewire hub to connect the HVX-200, as your only Firewire 400 port is in use by the F2?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m just wondering which way to go with field acquisition.

    Many thanks in advance.
