This was announced in November by Sony. It was further shown at the NAB.
It is the smaller, water and dust resistant model.It is scheduled for Summer availability. With the earthquake situation, I would expect it to be late.

There are three ways to view the output.
1. analog composite
2. SDI
3. HDMIYou go into the menu settings will have an options on output, and you can tell it which output you want.
Another output setting if you set it to output all, it will output the display as in the viewfinder, ie battery life, speed, aperature etc.
Chances are your computer has an hdmi connection, and possibley a composite connection. However All the computers I have seen assume that those connections are outputs on the computer, not inputs.
I have considered using a laptop as a monitor before, but have never seen a way to turn the computer connections from outputs to inputs.

That tool sounds like too much work for the return.
I also am trying to render in hd mov to give to a FCP user.
When I choose MOV as the output, it compresses it.Is there a setting that will render it in whatever is 1920x1080x60i for editing in FCP?

I was talking about when it is in auto focus.
When in manual focus, I have not seen a problem.
Except in one case of user error. I focused the way you suggested while viewing with the eyepiece. However, the diopter adjustment on the eyepiece had moved since the previous time I used it. So, I focused it incorrectly.

No, There is no backfocus.
You have run into the NXCam anti face detection system.
I have documented for Sony Product Support, and they have duplicated the tests. It goes like this. The way the camera auto focus works is that trys to make vertical lines in the frame sharp.
The downside is that if there are vertical lines behind your subject, it will prefer those to the round face of a human being. I call them architectural lines. For instance, all grace, bricks, or the vertical edges of window frames are all subject to being focused on when compared to a face.
Sony said the effect is more pronounced when the lighting is low and the zoom is more than half way zoomed. I found it happening in bright light when the zoom is more than half way zoomed.
I will upload the sample pictures I sent to Sony, if I can figure out how to do it.

In actuality, the camera doesn’t create a new file every 12 minutes, it creates it every time it gets to 2Gig file size. So the higher the resolution, the shorter the clip. I shoot at 1920 x 1080 x 60i
I use the clips as they come from the camera, I just take them right off the camera, the mts files. If you look at the files as the are on the storage media, you should see the size is 2 gig max.
If you use the Content Management Utility that came with the Sony, to get the files from the storage media, it will concatenate the files into one long one. This is easier to edit, however masks the issue.
If you use the Cineform codec before editing, it will concatenate the files into one long one.
I am not familiar with how you are processing the files before FCP, but I suspect that it may be concatenating the files.
I am using Sony Vegas Pro 10. This allows me to take the files directly from storage card and drop them into the editor. When I tell the program to lay out the files according to the embedded timecode, it leaves the one or two frame gap between clips.
Remember, loosing two frames every 12 minutes is not noticable at all in itself.
It is only an issue with multicam shoots, or where you have audio being recording on a different device like the zoom recorder and the event is say over an hour. Like a 3 hour dance recital or play or concert. In those cases I might have 2 cameras with 4 tracks of audio plus the zoom h4n with 4 more tracks of audio, and after one hour the audio is noticably out of sync between the audio on the two cameras and the separate device.

I am using Kindston 32 gig class 10. I am also using the sony digital storage unit, I thinkg it is called FMU128. Both of them drop the EXACT same amount of frames.

Here is my wish. That your crusade ends with Sony offering a firmware upgrade so that we can all benefit.
Have you checked with other tapeless cameras to make sure that they don’t do similar frame dropping?
As much as I hate these problems, this is still less problems than my tape based cameras where I had to resync at every tape change anyway.
