In case anyone beside me is readying this post.
I upgraded my old cameras to the version 4 firmware and now they can use 128 gig sd cards.

You have to send it in to repair and replace it.
It is not field replaceable.I actually spent $100 and bought the shop manual. It is what the sony service department uses. After looking at it, I decided I did not want the downtime that I might cause myself by trying to do it.

So I decided to test the 128 gig sd card and here are my results.
I have 4 NX5U cameras. I bought 2 one year and 2 the next.
The oldest 2 do not recognize the 128gig.The newer 2 DO recognize the 128 gig cards.
I wonder if the difference is the firmware? Does anyone know how to check the firmware level on the camera? I have been unsuccessful at getting any of my cameras to accept the version 4 firmware.

I have also observed they offer rebates before the replacement model comes out.
If Sony is going to do it this Spring, it will probably be announced at the NAB show in Las Vegas. Otherwise, it will probably be in the fall at the show in Europe.
So I would wait until NAB April 5 through 10.

It is free software, downloadable from the sony support page for the camera.
Sony did something idiotic, however, and when you are installing the software, you have to have the camera plugged into the computer for verification of a supported camera.
Like who would want the software by itself?

These seem to require special mating sockets to lock into place properly. Have you tried any with the NX5U? Does it accept these locking tabs and actually lock them into place?

I get the same error message.
I have tried it on several computers and get the same message. No, actually, sometimes the application won’t start up with that script in the folder.

And Stephen, your suggestion is a good one too. I will do that. However, I admit my expectation level of Sony Creative Support and product development is low.

Lens should not make sounds.
I would try and return it, which if it is ebay you may be out of luck.
If you can’t return it, you may consider operating on it to find the loose part. Or, if it works just use it till it dies. Chances are that there is a loose screw inside from the focus mechanism. Sooner or later it will get lodged in a bad place and stop focusing
