Thanks for all the tips and suggestions guys – great! I just noticed the “difference matte” in Prem Pro. Going by the instructions (and the demonstration images), this is the perfect tool to use. The only problem is I can’t seem to get it to work – i.e. following the instruction doesn’t give me anything remotely like the final product. Has anyone had experience with the difference matte? I’ve seen a few posts out there that aren’t too complimentary of it.

Thanks for the tip Robert. I thought I solved this problem myself after a bit more looking around. The Premiere effect “difference matte” sounds absolutely perfect for what I’m after. The only problem is, it doesn’t seem to work! Has anyone else had experience with this effect?

For whatever reason, if you create a title in Prem 2.0 (which has embedded graphics in it) Prem craps itself when it comes to trimming it. As an experiment try removing the embedded graphics in the titles and trimming the project. If that doesn’t improve things try deleting all the titles complete and try again – you’ll prob notice it trims perfectly well now!!

In prev versions of Prem titles were created as separate files. In prem 2.0 the titles are built into the project file. And they stop you from trimming your project.

Hi, I had a problem with a big project similar to yours. I had approx 600 source clips and before they could all be imported Prem crapped itself.

What I did was use VirtualDub to join the source clips together using a ‘direct stream copy’ which doesn’t recompress – so no loss of quality. I did this for different categories of clips, so I would join the clips together in groups of approx 50. That way, when I imported into Prem, I only had 12 source clips! Then you bring those clips into the timeline and cut them back up. A pain, I know, but a way around your problem.

    Good luck!

Do you have any titles in the project?

    Hi Kim,

What ‘editing mode’ are you in (project/project settings/general)?

Thanks for suggesting the line of enquiry. I’ve uploaded the image of the GSpot analysis.

Do you think it’s got anything to do with whether the DV file is type 1 or type 2?
