Hello. I have transferred film professionally for many years. What works well is to transfer the film at 20 frames per second. With a normal three-bladed shutter projector, this will eliminate flicker with the standard 1/60 shutter speed on your video camera. Then take that .avi file into Vegas and slo-mo it at 90% of normal speed. This will in essence make the frame rate 18 frames per second, the standard for silent Super 8 film. It works very well. Vegas slo-mo is very nice.

  • I have noticed this phenomenon in Vegas 4 and 5. I have never known what causes it. It only happens once in a while but is rather annoying. I would be normalizing a series of clips, then for no apparent reason, the audio on one of them would go to zero when normalized. Sometimes if I closed the project and came back to it later, I could normalize that clip. Maybe it does have something to do with a dropout. Anyone else have any ideas?

  • You can go to “Options”, “Editing” and set the length for each picture and then amount of overlap (if you want that.

I still use DA 1, and burn very full discs almost all the time. I rarely ever have freeze problems. I think blank media, burn speed and other factors are more a cuase for freezes. I use high quality blanks, never put paper labels on discs (I print directly on the printable surface), and never burn faster than 4x. I have a 7-tray DVD duplicator. I take the manufacturers advice, and burn my master at 1x in Architect and then load that into the duplicator’s hard drive. Almost all my projects are 95-100% full discs and I virtually never have bad ones. I think DA 1 is okay is this respect, from my experience.
