I have the Sony A65 which is almost the same as the A77. It produces a very crisp, very nice 1080p for me and I have no problem playing it back in either Adobe Premiere CS 5.5 or 6.0 or in Sony Vegas 11. Check your settings for your LCD screen – auto? brightness level? Have you tried using the OLED EVF, which is great for seeing what is really there. Have you tried pressing the Preview button on the camera which can be set to see what you will actually be recording?

Nero Quick Media player is the media player that comes with Nero from Ahead. I have compared it to multiple free players and, for me, does the best job at playing 1080p AVCHD. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, GH2 users, after many months of trying, have been unable to properly record to on-board units, such as the Atomos, Black Magic Shuttle Pro, and others without problems – extra frames, cadence issues, etc. It is something that Panasonic implemented that has not been defeated. I had (2)GH2’s and they were great cameras, but, alas, that fish didn’t swim! Here is a link to a site dedicated to the GH1 and GH2, their amazingly successful “hacks”, etc. The sad story is all there. It is certainly not from lack of trying.

With something of this importance, you might consider a 2nd recording unit as a backup.

I tested and then purchased ProDad Vitascsne LE 2.0 this year that works well with CS5.5. They provide both FX and Transitions and you can test/purchase other extensive packages from them.I have used them in a variety of promotional and industrial productions that specifically wanted a particular look.

We use a StarTech standalone hard drive duplicator dock to clone the system drives in our edit workstations. This unit does not have to be hooked to a computer to do a bit-for-bit clone. It talks to ESata and USB (the newer model to USB3, and can act as an external drive dock as well. We purchased new drives to match our system drives. Our computer cases allow quick access to a system drive, and we let the StarTech do it’s thing overnight, then file the updated clone on a shelf. One of our edit bays lost a system drive recently, and quick swap to it’s clone had us up an running in a few minutes. The StarTech also clones 2.5″ laptop drives.

June 17, 2012 at 8:18 pm in reply to: JuicedLink Riggy Line

I use the JuicedLink DS214 Preamp (7.2 ounces) mounted to the rig with an adjustable ball head adapter. Set the angle to keep an eye on levels and volume settings. The Riggy line looks a little bigger but probably not that much heavier. I also mount it on occasion to the hotshoe – it does not feel unbalanced. The JuicedLink line is impressive for it’s small size and build quality – it does exactly what the mfg. claims.
