Looking for, like many of you, a way to monitor audio directly from the mini hdmi port on my dslr, which has no A/V out. I have searched the usual places, but have only found a few small, dedicated boxes with Hdmi in to composite A/V out. One of these, about $70.00, combines the L&R audio to a single, combined mini jack port, but supposedly at line level. If accessory LCD camera-mounted monitors can provide a headphone jack, you would think that a simple connector/adapter padded for headphone monitoring from the hdmi port would exsist. Anyone?

Probably does either custom made or available in China. You probably wont find in your local store, as its not something the typical consumer wants.

    Hi John,

It’s funny that I come across your post. I’m actually looking for the same thing as you. Was wondering if I could find an adapter to monitor the audio on my gh2. If you find anything please post and I’ll do the same.

    cheers

Don’t know how well this works, but at $18 I’d say it’s worth a try.

You would need a female->female adaptor as well, though. That’s an additional two fifty.

The cables do not work as there is no conversion from digital to analog. I did recently find a couple of boxes that do the conversion, but they are approximately 8 x 6 x 3 and require DC power. You would also have to add a pad to convert the line level L + R audio to a headphone level connector. This could work on a tripod shoot, but would be pretty cumbersome handheld on a rig. [robert mckoen] “… an adapter to monitor the audio on my gh2 …”

Hi Robert: You may already know this, but just to confirm: The GH2 does not output live audio during recording. The GH2’s HDMI & USB/AV connectors only output audio during playback only, period.

I monitor playback audio from my GH2’s USB/AV connector using inexpensive plug/cable adapters: A pair of female RCA barrel adapters to a stereo male-RCA-to-female-3.5mm adapter. Drives my Sony MDR-V6 and Sennheiser HD-280-Pro headphones to an adequate sound level.

My kingdom for a “GH3” with a headphone jack for live monitoring during recording (I wish)! 😉

    Cheers.

I though I read somewhere that this has been explored through the hack people and there is no audio out on the hdmi…only video…I think they would have gotten it by now if it was possible.

I have a new Sony A65. Whenever it is connected to an HDMI monitor, it does send audio to it whether it is recording or not, but only when in the dedicated movie mode, not in S,M or A mode.

Your link leads to a blank Google search bar.
